Mexico became independent from Spain 189 years ago, not 200.

You could make the same argument that the US became independent from Britain in 1783 and not 1776.

You could make the same argument that the US became independent from Britain in 1783 and not 1776.

There's a big difference. In 1776, an elected body representing the entire country approved a resolution declaring independence. In 1810, a priest in a small town gave a speech calling for independence. Mexico didn't actually declare independence until 1821.
