GOP nightmare: O'Donnell topples Castle in Delaware primary

The path to a Republican Senate takeover narrowed to the point of vanishing Tuesday night, as marketing consultant Christine O’Donnell upset Rep. Mike Castle in Delaware’s Senate primary and likely dashed the GOP’s hopes of capturing the seat in the process.

Though six other states and the District of Columbia voted in primary elections Tuesday night, the outcome in Delaware had by far the most profound implications for the fall campaign. While Castle was comfortably on track to capture Vice President Joe Biden’s former Senate seat, O’Donnell will enter the general election at a wide disadvantage to the presumptive Democratic nominee, New Castle County Executive Chris Coons.

Other leading Republicans openly lamented O’Donnell’s win. Karl Rove, appearing on Fox News, immediately declared: “We were looking at eight to nine seats in the Senate. We’re now looking at seven to eight. This is not a race we’re going to be able to win.”

If you read, I do live in California. We know that Arnold sucks, but we also know if he didn’t win we would have a liberal Democrat here who would have overturned Prop 13, etc, etc.

As much as I hate Arnold, he at least pushes conservative causes 40% or 50% of the time. The Democrats here push them 0%. That’s the point, in a state like California, we have zero shot at a true conservative so you have to pick your poison. It sucks, but that’s reality. What good does it do to send up a true Conservative in California that loses by 30 points? For a moral victory? Please.

O’Donnell can’t win in Delaware, and that’s the problem. I hope I’m wrong, I’m happy to come on here and apologize if I am. It just chaps my hide that we had a shot at the Senate this year and we have screwed the pooch by electing O’Donnell and Angle in the primaries.

The Political elites have thrown down the gauntlet, it is time to show them that we the People are still in control.

There is going to be a vicious backlash against the NRSCC, Rove, and the Republican 'opinion makers' who think they know what is best for us.

‘Gonzo, the difference between 47 and 49 is not nil...it’s huge. It means you get 50 with Lieberman on some issues.’

Wrong! It means you lose with a vote of 51 - 50 with Biden voting with the Democrats to eliminate the deadlock.

We need 41 - 43 STRONG AS OAK Conservatives who can be counted on to stall, stall and stall for the 18 months that problems can occur. Once the election year is in full swing. not even the Liberals will want to be scene with Obama the LAME DUCK.

We also need a leadership with guts that lambastes Obama on a daily basis calling him everything in the book. JUST LIKE THEY BAD MOUTHED BUSH! Show NO MERCY! He is weak and getting weaker by the day. Use it to our advantage.

Idiot! You must be one of those GOP power hungry people - no ethics, no conservative policies, just a thirst for power. Well, let me tell you and all the other GOP hangers on, get out and get out now... Things have changed! No longer will we put up with RINO attitudes!

No more porkfests!

No more compromises with the Democrats just to get along (to hell with what is right or what is good for the country).

If you insist on winning just to get into power, you WILL be voted out! Either get some ethics, honesty, and do what is right for this Country or go away!

Yes, that pertains to you stupid voters also...

Nice insults. Says a lot more about you than me. Maybe you can hurl them some more next year while you watch Dick Durbin leading the Senate to easy confirmations of a sixth liberal Supreme Court justice and more Marxist Obama appointees, and watch him refuse to schedule votes on anything passed by the new House Republican majority.

If Angle and COD both lose and the Senate remains Dim by 51-49, or 50-50, the story will be that but for the TP candidates the GOP could’ve taken the upper chamber. The GOP establishment (Romney) will pound this message home to party leaders which will lead to his nomination and re-trenchment of the GOP establshment.

Michael Steele:
You have insulted us for the last time. You publicly announce your lack of support for a candidate because your hand picked guy didn’t win?

Whose side are you on, really? Many of us feel you and the party have been playing an insider game far too long and enough is enough!

So long you as you are head of the RNC I will not take your calls or even open your letters.

The Republican voter has changed and you and your friends or the cabal of country club Republicans are dinosaurs.

Giving money and support to Crist, Specter, Scuzzyfavor, Chaffee, Snow, Collins? Unacceptable!

Have fun. That little light in the corner of your eye is your career dissipation light.

Have a nice day!

Slugs

Establishment republicans still don’t seem to get the idea that conservatives think they are part of the problem (and a big part at that).

They still think it is an honor for us to be screwed by them instead of by democrats.

It still hurts to sit down after the eight year screwing we got out of the Bush administration. Republicans had the chance of a lifetime to end the era of bigger and bigger government and to roll back socialism.

Instead, they did the democrats work for them. That is, when they weren’t busy slopping at the trough, enriching themselves and their pals and looking down their noses at conservatives.

Castle doesn't vote Republican 65% of the time, he votes 52% of the time!

That is why he needed to go!

The Republicans of Delware have made THEIR choice, and that is what is upsetting the political elites!

You're wrong. Tom McClintok, according to multiple polls, would have beat Bustamante if Schwarzenegger hadn't entered the race.

RINO that only voted conservative 43% 52% of the time

Self correction, read the wrong side of the table on how often he voted with us. Still not much of an improvement.

What an ass. Just another reason we need to take a step beyond throwing the RINOs overboard, and get these entrenched party machine hacks out of the party as well.

For that, the Tea Party has to show up at the 2012 local party conventions and vote them out of the party offices.

I am going go give Dana a pass for hotness but, she pulls for the other team and I am going to tune her out everytime she goes on Hannity, Fox or any other program.

Persona non-grata.

Gonzo, the difference between 47 and 49 is not nil...it’s huge. It means you get 50 with Lieberman on some issues. It means you are one special election from 50 during the next two years. It means you only have to pick up 1 more vote in 2012.

It means that Castle switches parties to gain HIS power and influence in the Senate: Like Jeffords, Spectre, Lolapalooza (NY-23), Christie in FL, RI’s “GOP” ex-senator now a democrat, Murkowski (AK loser in the primary to Miller, now setting up as a write-in candidate) .....

Is anybody thinking SHE might switch parties if the Senate were 50-50? Is ANYBODY anywhere discussing whether Miller would switch parties if it were 50-50? But Murkowski isn't supporting Miller!

But would Snowe switch parties if the demo's offered her more funding than the RINO’s?

Please...there are still enough conservatives and tea party like supporters with evangelicals in the Republican Party that are not going to “go with the flow” just because Romney pounds the podium saying ‘see moderation is the way to go’.....There has been pent up frustration for years of conservatives on realizing the party always compromising to the left and is not being principle enough...look at the last two years, it’s not a FADE it’s a movement!!
