GOP nightmare: O'Donnell topples Castle in Delaware primary

The path to a Republican Senate takeover narrowed to the point of vanishing Tuesday night, as marketing consultant Christine O’Donnell upset Rep. Mike Castle in Delaware’s Senate primary and likely dashed the GOP’s hopes of capturing the seat in the process.

Though six other states and the District of Columbia voted in primary elections Tuesday night, the outcome in Delaware had by far the most profound implications for the fall campaign. While Castle was comfortably on track to capture Vice President Joe Biden’s former Senate seat, O’Donnell will enter the general election at a wide disadvantage to the presumptive Democratic nominee, New Castle County Executive Chris Coons.

Other leading Republicans openly lamented O’Donnell’s win. Karl Rove, appearing on Fox News, immediately declared: “We were looking at eight to nine seats in the Senate. We’re now looking at seven to eight. This is not a race we’re going to be able to win.”

That is alright with me, better that then Castle as a U.S. Senator.

And what makes you so sure that Castle wouldn't have flipped to the Democrats or resigned in a couple of years so Biden's son (running unopposed for the AG) not be put in!

. We need EVERY vote to stop Obamism. 49 is better than 47.

All it takes Republican-controlled House to stop the Obama agenda.

And, it would be better for 2012 if Democrats still held the Senate unless every conservative candidate in a winnable race is elected. Who wants a Republican congress bailing out Obama like the Republican majority bailed out Clinton in 1996?

Another BIG WINNER! Exactly right.

My fear is that we DO take the Senate by 1 or 2 votes. Than we are in loggerheads with the White Hose and Obama runs against the Republican Congress and tries to tie his pathetic record to the Republican Congress!

One of the most despicable traits of people like Rove is that if RINO Castle had won the nomination, they would have demanded we shut our mouths and support the Party’s nominee despite any flaws. But they will now spend their time running down the People’s nominee, O’Donnell.

No, the TP has accomplished more then anyone thought it could do!

So, if we lose a couple of Senate races,at least we had a chance to put a real Conservative in, not a phony one.

Rove spent eight years turning the government back over to the democrats by 1) demoralizing his own base and 2) convincing independents that republicans didn't stand for anything but pork.

If people really want to elect democrats, let them. But at least give them the option of electing a conservative.

You could be right. I’m a little torn when it comes to such things. People need to realize that we have a large diverse country, and a conservative that wins every race in Alabama won’t stand a snowball’s chance in hell in the North East.

Might not be the best idea to let ‘perfect be the enemy of the good’(or however the saying goes). At the same time, that Castle guy has taken some pretty radical left positions in the past. He shouldn’t have even been in the running, IMO. For God’s sake, you can be a “moderate” republican, and NOT support impeaching Bush.... That’s just over the top!

"We" does NOT include me Rove, you sorry ass POS RINO.

This is the establishment entitlement mentality on naked display.

I’m sorry, but NEVER is it better to have a liberal Democrat than a damn RINO WHEN the damn RINO is the best you will ever get

Tell that to conservatives in California that elected Arnold Schwarzenegger. Or those in New York that helped get Michael Bloomberg elected.

And, it is a lie to assume a conservative can't win in Delaware. If Chris Christie can win in New Jersey, a conservative can win in Delaware.

And add Sen. Coyrn as well, head of the NRSCC.

This is separating the wheat from chaff time.

Paladino’s speech was exactly that - Fire in the Belly

And he said it: “We are mad as hell and won’t take it anymore”

No more RINO’s!

Castle might’ve been 1/3 better than a dem. That 1/3 can be substantial.

This view is what got us McCain in '08. Better a moderate to help pull in the liberal New England states. Looks like tonight shows there are more conservative R's than moderate R's, even in DE.

Maybe the demographics are changing as we watch. Maybe the time has come the change the strategy. Maybe, just maybe, we are reaching critical mass on people paying attention.

It’s a big win, but let’s be honest. If 2 of Angle, O’Donnell, or Miller lose, the TP’s stock will drop like a rock, Romney will win the nomination and lose to 0bama.

No, the TP's stock will not fade. The importance of tonight is that tonight the establishment Republicans realize that the can no longer win within their own party. The tea party is not about putting R's in office, it is about fundamentally changing the direction that this country is going. This can only happen if the establishment Republicans are removed the fence, and have to openly declare which side they are on.

Tonight, that fence crumbled. With their money supply shrinking, their candidates losing, and their prospects fading, they either have to govern as a legitimately conservative force, or they have to openly declare war on the tea party movement. Not unexpectedly, they chose the latter.

The tea party movement will not fade. In a sense, it is the definition of the American dream (the one expressed in the constitution). It will be around long after Cornyn, Castle, McCain, and the others are completely forgotten.

In the near term, the TP will only get stronger, as people see it as the only real opposition force in this country. This will happen regardless of what happens in November.

We need EVERY vote to stop Obamism. 49 is better than 47.

Susan Collins, Olympia Snowe, the former Republican Arlen Specter, John McCain, and a few others didn't stop Obamism. We don't need people like this who, when it comes down to a few to make the difference, make the wrong kind of difference.

If Castle can not win the primary, how would he win in the fall. If you have a majority with rinos you do not have a majority.

A Senate majority isn’t worth warm spit anyway without the Presidency and 60 votes, exclusive of RINOS (closet Dem-rat moles).

What 48 Senators rather than 49 means that you need a Gang of 16 rather than a Gang of 18 to subvert conservative filibusters. But with one less RINO, it comes out the same.

Gonzo, the difference between 47 and 49 is not nil...it’s huge. It means you get 50 with Lieberman on some issues. It means you are one special election from 50 during the next two years. It means you only have to pick up 1 more vote in 2012.

So you pick up Leiberman, and have 50!. Oh then Biden casts the tie breaker and you are back to having Jack Squat. And if by some chance you get 51 how do you get past the Democrat Filibuster. You need 60 no 50. And if by some miracle you get 60 Obama just whips out the old Veto pen and you are back to Jack Squat unless you can get 67.

The best we can do is hold the line until 2012. You need 41 solid votes to do that. Castle wasn't solid so regardless of if he won or lost he gave you no advantage. Picking up 7 seats will be more than enough to maintain a filibuster. After that it is just a head start on 2012. But then it is a matter of picking up 3 or picking up 4. That is a small price to pay to be rid of a RINO that only voted conservative 43% of the time and put fear into the hearts of the other RINOs that we couldn't get rid of.

As the song says Karl "Have I stayed too long at the fair?" Yes, Karl, you stayed too long. It's time for you to go home now. And don't come back.
