UPS and Homeland Security - UPDATE - IT WAS UPS AND THE TEAMSTERS
Me | Follow up to Earlier Post | JessDuntno

I own a small business. About two hours ago, a woman came through the door marked NO ADMITTANCE EMPLOYEES ONLY and started talking to one of the guys, asking questions about the business. He tried to point out to her that she had just walked through a door that was pretty clearly marked as for employees only and she waved that off and produced a business card that said she was a UPS Representative. she starts to explain that she is here by request of Homeland Security and is doing a checkup on our business because we do a lot of shipping. The guy calls me and says I should come downstairs.

I hear her saying that if we don't fill out the forms that she is waving around, we could have our shipping interrupted as soon as tomorrow.

I called my UPS Agent and she said that yes, there was some "auditing" of businesses going on, but that it was not necessary to fill out the forms, it was a cooperative effort they were engaged in with DHS. The woman was just trying to do her job, but no, it didn't have to be filled out on the spot and no, she had no authority or reason to say our shipping would be interrupted. She was embarrassed, I think.

AND THEN I STARTED TO THINK .... THEY SAID HOMELAND SECURITY AND THE FAA PROJECT....IT WAS BS. IT WAS ABOUT THE FAA BILL THAT THE TEAMSTERS ARE TRYING TO STICK US WITH! THE WOMAN WAS A TEAMSTER! SHE WASN'T ON THE UPS PAYROLL AT ALL, SHE WASN'T IN THE DIRECTORY! THE UPS PEOPLE BACKED RIGHT OFF! SEE BELOW FOR STORY;

I was in the business for 24 years. There is two sides to a story. I was a pro-business Teamster. There are Dirty companies and Good companies. There are Dirty unions( I hated when they tell me who to vote for) and good unions.

Fred Smith "bribes" and lends out Leisure planes to politicians. Just look it up.

Full timers who worked 40 hours are dropped to 35 hours so there are no full time requirements. He is a "louse". He plays games all the time with workers.

I personally had my shipping dropbox moved because Fred Smith had a hissy fit because ours was next to his dropbox in the Long Island Marriot near the Islanders Colisiuem in NY. He is a "bum".

Our subdivision has had the same UPS driver on the same route for years. I was once told by him that he is regularly invited by single female homeowners in the area to park his truck in their driveway and take a swim in their swimming pool to cool off. This is why delivery is sometimes delayed or the packages are dropped off at the latest part of the shift! Once, this same driver walked all the way through our garage to knock on the kitchen door trying to deliver a package, when he could have very easily just left it at the front door. I told him I didn’t want him walking through our garage because if he tripped or fell on anything he could sue us and I didn’t want a lawsuit from him. And besides he was trespassing on private property. I have never had anything like that happen with a FedEx driver. They are always prompt, courteous and professional.

Headlines hit late in the day on the Dow Jones broad tape from Senate Commerce Committee Chairman John D. Rockefeller, a Democrat, saying that the proposed legislation that would make it easier for FedEx workers to unionize has no chance of passing in Congress.

When a democRat says something ain't going to happen, watch for the slight of hand. Probably they want to draw interest away from the brown bailout.

Growing up UPS was great. They aren’t the same company anymore.

If the lady said she was working with DHS under false pretenses call the Joint Intake Center, 1-877-2INTAKE (1-877-246-8253.) They take complaints about bad agents, so I would imagine they can help you with people pretending to be working with in support of the government.

When you sign an agreement or request pick-up service with some companies, you often give them authority to areas not open to the public.

Also, when working as a temp for UPS I walked through all kinds of doors and gates without being questioned. I even walked out on a flight line to deliver a package to a mechanic without any alarm raised by security.

I would review any agreement you have with UPS. I would also request the person who entered your business return with a supervisor to apologize and offer ID for your security files.

The shipping charge was $8.95 UPS Ground

sorry but the shipping and handling charges are added by the shipper......never mind what UPS charged them, you pay the inflated S&H charges and THEY keep the money. If they offer you a buy one, get one free offer, guess what, they charge S&H on the free item too.....could have put them both in the same envelope, but then they’d have lost the $9.95 in shipping charges....don’t blame Brown for this rip off

It seems like USPS has doubled in cost the past couple years

and still can't turn a profit....

ARe you saying that FedEx cuts employees to 35 hours to avoid paying benefits? Or am I misunderstanding your post?

The reason I ask - I know several local FedEx employees who work 35 hours per week, but get full benefits (very attractive benefits at that!).

Firmly grasp her by the back of the neck with the left hand, and the seat of the pants with the right and throw her ass out. End of problem.

It's been a while but the ones who came over to our company figured it out. I do not know the details now. But when I bump into some old friends I will ask. Try to get back. This though I know they will reduce hours instead of lay-off but that person has to quit. Why they need full time not part time pay. Fedex use to have no lay-offs but instead it was reduced hours. Fedex would brag about it. No Layoffs. A joke.

Also notice how younger the Fedex driver is compared to other companies. As you get older your discourged by them. Not too many get to be an older age. They find a way to fire or tell them they should quit. This is known in the industry. At least in the Ny Tristate area. I am talking express. Now they have owner operators on ground deliveries which was the old RPS GROUND(orange and tan? trucks in the ninties). FEDEX took over in 1998. My friend's truck colors changed. It is whatever age the driver because it is bought Route. If your willing to buy age doesn't matter. Wow! You helped scratch my memory banks. LOL!

Full time and part time employees at FedEx Express (not sure about the sister companies: Ground, Freight, Custom Critical, etc.) get the same benefit package. The guy you responded to has no clue what he’s talking about.

They have a forced one hour lunch. He is doing it because he is off hours. I doubt your implications. I am not saying your wrong but sooner or later that guy would be fired. UPS runs a tight ship. I have friends who work there. They would laugh at him getting away outside time. You should hear the stories how tight a ship they run. Just saying my friend.

UPS lost pretty much all their business with the state of Texas this year. Their contracts were not renewed because of their prices and intractability. We moved to Lone Star Overnight and saved more than half, packages get there overnight, and they actually respond to service issues. Getting rid of UPS was one of the best decisions the state made.
