SPRINGFIELD Effingham County sheriff deputies have reported the early Sunday morning arrest of three men to the federal Joint Terrorism Task Force.
The men, two from Russia and one from Kazakhstan, were found near Georgia Powers Plant McIntosh on Old Augusta Road about 1 a.m. Sunday after a ranger with the Department of Natural Resources reported a suspicious vehicle, Effingham County sheriffs spokesman David Ehsanipoor said.
Deputies reported the men, who were inside a 1995 Nissan Pathfinder, had a machete, shovel, wire cutters and ski masks. One man also had black silk stockings in his front left pocket.
Arrested were Evgeniy Luzhetskiy, of Kazakhastan Nail Idiatullin and Rustem Ibragimov of Russia. All three reported they lived in Charleston, S.C., deputies reported.
The men were all charged with possession of tools during the commission of a crime.
The three were released after being interviewed by task force members, Ehsanipoor said.
"They did all have visas that allowed them to be here and are supposed to be leaving the country soon."
The man’s name was Mr Chekov. Prior to the incident, he accosted several people and asked to be taken to the “Nuclear Wessels.”
When they asked about transparent aluminum, things got a little strange.
Thank you for the ping Uncle Ike.
Thread bump.
Naturally.
From Russia with love I fly to you,
Much wiser since my good-bye to you.
I’ve traveled the world to learn,
I must return from Russia with love.
I’ve seen places, faces and smiled for a moment,
But oh, you haunted me so.
Still my tongue tied young pride,
l’d not let my love for you show In case you’d say no.
To Russia I flew but there and then,
I suddenly knew you’d care again.
My running around is through,
I fly to you from Russia with love.
Islam is the largest religion in Kazakhstan, but that can’t be it.
I wonder if the feds have interviewd the 3-maybe they are tea party members or wrote something bad about Bo that ought to do it
Why in the world would anyone want to break into a Coal fired plant? Having worked in various power plants Nation wide, I can say most have decent security, especially Nukes.
Maybe they were trying to steal some electricity to take home with them. (Sarc)
Deputies call feds after arresting Russians with shovel, wire cutters outside Georgia Power plant- They confessed their car battery had died and they needed to jump-start it
Sounds kinky.
The first guy is definitely ethnic Russian (a quarter of the population is Russian). The latter two "Russians" have Muslim names and are likely Chechens. I could see this as Islamic terrorism if the first guy is a convert or is using an alias.
What idiots we have working for the federal Joint Terrorism Task Force!!!!
What total morons!!!!
Throw them in jail indefinitely or kick them out early on a one way ticket to the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. All they're going to do is disappear and try it again somewhere else.
Honestly, words fail me at the abject stupidity of the people who are supposed to be entrusted with keeping us safe.
Something is not right here. Were they Muslims from the Caucausus? If so, it was madness to release them.
Doubt it.
When it comes to dealing with this sort, I trust Vlad's instincts (murder with extreme prejudice) over Barry's (bow to their King).
That is not a photo of any of the suspects.
Your juvenile spam posting is disturbing.
Copper thieves most likely. They will steal your air conditioner condensors, your wiring, they pull the wires out of street lights, etc.
If you want to steal copper, a power plant is a gold mine ... er, I mean copper mine, of copper wiring and copper connectors.
Jeez dude, calm down. There were plenty of petty criminals, even organized criminals, before there were terrorists. Just because several people were out stealing copper is not a reason to think that terrorists are coming to get you. Not all criminals are terrorists.
