GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The anti-Muslim leader of a tiny Florida church says he was lied to and is rethinking his decision to cancel burning Qurans to mark 9/11.
Pastor Terry Jones earlier Thursday had backed off his threat to burn the Quran after he said he was promised that a planned Islamic center and mosque would be moved away from New York's ground zero. Muslim leaders denied there was such a deal.
Later outside his church he said that the imam he thought he made the deal with "clearly, clearly lied to us" about moving the mosque.

I try very hard not to presume for Him, but I think some things are safely no-brainers. I really think that He wouldn't be burning books or ham-fistedly disrespecting another's religious beliefs, however wrong. Do I think he would speak on it? Ignoring that Islam is merely a radical misappropriation of Judaism that arose in the context of early Christianity, I can't see that he wouldn't speak about it. Certainly he had to have addressed the Greco/Roman religious structure that was predominant far more than any accounts we read in Gospels.
But I still don't think that He would be doing this, and given that this is being done in His name, I think the reference to His practices is relevant.
Hannity (TV) is where I found out about the agreement and the muslim who lied.
I try very hard not to do that. I think is cheapens us, it makes us situationally ethical, or mere partisans with our morality. I fully support us doing things we need to do, ie. killing bad guys knowing that collateral damage is unavoidable, but this is unnecessary and beneath us.
The hajji lied? That is exactly how the haj works.
I’m amazed at the lockstep of the talking heads from all TV stations on this. It doesn’t matter which TV host it is, or which network, they use the word “kook” or “loon” or something similar when describing this pastor. To a person it’s all about Jones getting his 15 moments of fame.
The lockstep couldn’t be more obvious if it was a goosestep.
It is POWERFUL when they unite. It makes you wonder how in the world you can be so crazy as to have a different take. They truly do have the power to manipulate minds.
For what is this guy really doing? The bottom line is that he’s burning paper and ink. That’s it. He should say that: it’s just paper and ink.
Because of freedom of religion, Obama says the mosque should be built. (Not making any comments on the wisdom of it, he said.) Yet, many comments on the wisdom of burning the koran, and along with that no clear statement that it was a matter of free speech.
And O’Reilly and his ladies think that Justice O’Conner was right when she limited free speech by saying that speech in the form of burning a cross can be controlled if it is designed to injure someone. They want Jones prosecuted.
I say: get a shredder. Then he doesn’t violate any “open fire” laws.
Then put the shredded remains in a charcoal grill. I doubt the town has a law against using a grill.
Use charcoal lighter fluid. It’ll burn a lot faster that way in any case.

Burning a piece of paper or a book or a building does nothing to stymie the flow of ideas. Ideas are borne by people, and radical ideologies are spread via in the meeting places of these people.
The statement “we will not back down” in the face of evil is good. One cannot call cowering in the shadows a life of freedom.

Obama Team Funding Mosques Abroad Amid the ongoing controversy surrounding the planned mosque near New York’s ground zero comes the disclosure that American taxpayers are funding the construction and renovation of mosques around the world. The State Department’s U.S. Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation (AFCP) is spending millions of dollars on at least 29 mosque-related projects in 18 countries, including Pakistan, Tunisia, Egypt, Yemen, Sudan, and Albania. State Department spokeswoman Nicole Thompson told The Daily Caller website that the AFCP is a type of “diplomatic effort and outreach.” She said: “It is helping to preserve our cultural heritage. It is not just to preserve religious structures. It is not to preserve a religion. It is to help us as global inhabitants preserve cultures.”
