Washington (CNN) - "America's Toughest Sheriff" Joe Arpaio passed on running for governor earlier this year, but the Arizona lawman who has become a national figure for his tough stand on illegal immigration is not closing the door on a presidential run in 2012.

The liberal commie ‘RATS would commit mass suicide. This doesn’t sound like a bad idea! Go Joe!

The title would be complete if “bid” could be added.

Considering the brutal nasty mood of the country, the man would probably have a good chance.

Most people have had their belly full of politically correct BS and the endless government pandering of criminal aliens.

I didn’t want to see him run for governor, because he was doing such an important job as sheriff. But I think a run for President might not be a bad idea.

He is a bit old, but plenty tough enough to serve out at least a first term.

How about an Arpaio-Palin ticket? I’d could vote for that, and it would be the first time in quite a while that I’d feel complete satisfaction pulling the lever.

I like his sheriffing. Does anyone know anything about his politics?

I look for attributes of character, values, discipline, passion, and guts when I vote for a President, and Sheriff Joe is the only one out of that list that would make me think about voting for anyone other than Sarah Palin.

He’s a fiscal conservative, who runs the jail system at a very low cost. He’s a believer in work and responsibility. He is actively dealing with the illegal problem, while few others do much more than talk about it.

Yes, I’d want to know where he stands on other issues, notably the social issues such as marriage, family, and the right to life. Given his character, I’d be willing to bet that he’s strong on those, too, but I’d want some confirmation.

Presumably if he goes to New Hampshire, we’ll learn more. But perhaps those who know him more closely than I do can answer this.

It really IS the “silly season”.....pundits try to corner the likes of Sheriff Joe and John Bolton into stepping on their foreskins; desired result, of course, is to continue painting anything left of Hillary Rodman Clinton as a total whackjob.

Joe's a great Sheriff. I'd like to see him brought in as a Presidential advisor on the border and the budget.

NO, YOU MAY NOT HAVE HIM!!!

We need him here at home, thank you...

I’m not so sure about President but he would make one hell’of an attorney general.

He would be great as attorney general in a Palin or conservative republican administration...
