Cuba's Fidel Castro criticized Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad for denying the Holocaust and said in an interview Tehran should acknowledge Israel's fears for its own survival, the Atlantic said Wednesday.
The Iranian government should understand that the Jews "were expelled from their land, persecuted and mistreated all over the world, as the ones who killed God," Castro was quoted as saying in the magazine's website.
Castro delivered his defense of the Jews in an interview with Jeffrey Goldberg, who wrote a widely noted piece in Atlantic's September edition exploring the likelihood of an Israeli air strike on Iran's nuclear facility within the next year.

From Castro's perspective, the Soviets hung Cuba out to dry in Angola because they were more interested in Middle East hegemony, and he resents it.
Could be. Either that or getting near death he is trying to sound sane.
You may be more right than you know....
My grandma always said we’d be very surprised by who WAS in Heaven and who WASN’T.
Now, I am in no means saying he is a saint, but things like this make you wonder just HOW close some people are to really seeing the truth, even if its at their last minutes of life.
Has Fidel found religion?
I am seeing a disturbing trend. Lately, Fidel is making more sense than Obama.
A broken clock is right twice a day.
Who knows if it is anything more than that?
But I do know this. Those who keep the council of Satan HATE the Jews. So it does say something....
Castro is just jealous of all the press that Nutjob gets. He doesn’t want to think of himself as an ‘old school’ dictator.
I don’t consider an explanation for Jewish thought to the same as a defense of the Jews.
One can say, I’m sorry you took my comments the wrong way, but that’s not an apology.
We need to be careful not to read too much into this.
Yes, the Jews have been persecuted. Yes they have been attacked and destroyed in large numbers. They are blamed far more than Islamic believers are.
Does any of this imply Israel should exist where it does, should be free from Arab hostility, or that Castro actually defends it against all comers?
Sadly..., no.
When it comes to actions that would make Israel more secure, he winces.
No sale Fidel. Your grasp of some of the problem is probably better than most if not all Middle-East players, but that doesn’t make you on Israel’s side.
I understand why Islamic adherents do a lot of things. I’ll guarantee you I’m not on their side.
Much more than that. Castro is descended from Spanish Jews who converted to escape persecution, according to his own testimony.
Please take a look at post 12, and see what you think.
You are not doing your homework. There's much more going on here than Cuba ;) Look overseas.

OK. Well that is both GOOD news and BAD.
Good that he has not forgotten his roots.
Bad in that it is likely no sign that he is actually coming into an accounting with the Lord.
Strangely enough, you’d think he would scorch Israel to beat off the Jew haters. Instead, he acts as if he understands the Jewish mindset. Is Fidel lurking near-bouts? Har.
Have you ever seen more neutral to blossoming love for nations other than Cuba, Vietnam, or China? The media can’t heap enough accolades on them.
In the last few days I noticed an hour work-up on Cubans and their love affair with vintage U. S. cars. While it didn’t completely ignore the reason for those cars being the dominant ones in Cuba, it sure sought to romanticize the presence of those cars, and how their owners loved them.
Actually, I find this a little incoherent. It isn't like you to be this effing inept.
The reasons for Castro's sudden outspoken-ness are to be found in Israel's new alliance with Russia. The US (with the islamist in the White Tent) has basically been discarded as Israel's main ally. A bonus is that Castro is now free to speak his mind.
Oh, and if you look at Cuba's history, you may find even more surprises.
Castro is living a slow death.
Well Hardraade, with Russia developing that Mediterranean port with Syria so it’s military can hang out there, I’ll leave it to you to decide if Israel has a new ally or not. I think we’re going to have to disagree on that one.
No, Israel can’t count on us right now, but it’s not operating by the delusion that Russia has it’s best interests at heart. If Russia did, it would be pressuring Syria and Iran to knock it off. Has it?
Castro has been free to speak his mind since the U. S. S. R. cut off his funding back in the 90s.
