Hillary Rodham Clinton on Tuesday called a Florida church’s threat to burn copies of the Muslim holy book to mark the ninth anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks a “disrespectful, disgraceful act.” (Sept. 7 Qur’an burning day to mark the 9/11 attacks says he is determined to go ahead in the face of fierce condemnation from the Obama administration.
Apparently Petraeus thinks that they do. In a counterinsurgency battle, one tries to win the hearts and minds of the populace, to prevent them from joining or aiding the other side. Koran burning is not the way to go about this. Petraeus is not worried about the men already in the Taliban as much as the ones who might join them.
My concern is regarding this administration, not what is said here.

Also...not only will AQ/Taliban/Iran use this book burning for recruiting/propaganda purposes, THE MEDIA IS USING IT TO PAINT ALL CHRISTIANS AS NUTS AND RIGHT WING NUTJOBS! The media might even understand the propaganda uses for this more than the Taliban/enemies of America. (not yelling at you...just generally pissed today at how the lamestream is yet again trying to denigrate christians and conservatives.

What does this book the Quran stand for? Beheading folks in the name of Allah, stoning women to death for comitting adultery, forcing women to have their head covered in public, portraying Christians and Jews as evil scum of the earth and on and on...it certainly is not a good book.
And as far as the book burning goes, our troops are in harms way as soon as they land in Afghanistan and burning the Quran isn’t going to change that. I have yet to see one prominent Muslim (if there is one) oh yeah! Bam comes to mind, say that the terrorists were wrong for 9/11. Just remember how they cheered.
I can tell you that I posted my original thread in “Chat” ... the thread where Terry Jones’ church endorses Fred Phelp’s church Westboro Baptist Church.
The moderators moved it to News/Activism. When I woke up the next morning, they had moved it again to Breaking News and Front Page News.
I think they want people to see what kind of person Terry Jones is.

Petraeus and anyone else is entitled to their opinion. Muslims will just have to get used to other people’s opinion. It’s free speech ....doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks about it. I’m tired of all these politicians sucking up to Muslims....they aren’t any better than anyone else!!!

People have a right to post whatever they want here in FR, within the guidelines. I question whether or not support for Terry Jones is within those guidelines, given that he supports “cheer every death of every US soldier”.
But that’s just me. I’m not the boss here.
What I am going to do is notice who here has no problem with Jones — and is willing to support him despite his “cheer every US soldier death”. I’m going to notice, I’m going to remember, and I’m going to watch how it affects them on other subjects.
FR is becoming quite famous out there in the media world and I would be very, very sad if ANYBODY thought for a SECOND that ANYBODY here supported “cheer every death of every US soldier”.
That would make us, literally, worse than DU. I don’t think even DU goes that far.

Oh, I agreed with what you said except for the last line about your rights not meaning anything if people can take it away by “peer pressure”.
So long as the people are private citizens exercising their own rights, I have no problem with them using peer pressure against other people exercising their rights.
It’s how I hope we can stop a porn shop from opening in our local downtown area. I don’t want government just launching a vendetta against the company if they meet the legal requirements, but I want individuals to protest the shop and make it unprofitable so they will leave.
Many Empires have tried and failed to do just that. We won't either. Shoot, even Islam has never really conquered all of Afghanistan. If we were not there, they'd just be killing each other.

The current counterinsurgency theory of the military is based on the lessons of Vietnam. In Vietnam we killed 2 million people and dropped more bombs than in WWII and we lost. The Russians did something similar in Afghanistan. So it is NOT true that you can always win by killing people and breaking things.

We need no other proof that the media is the enemy of freedom. They always side with our enemies. This little Phelps style preacher, with 50 parishioners, should have been ignored by the MSM. There was no reason for this little book burning to get national and international attention. The media brought this to the fore to stir up our enemies..just like they did with Abu Graib,Gitmo and a host of other manufactured ‘slights’ to Muslims. The media wants the blood of Americans running in the streets. There is no other explanation for all the things they have done since 911.
