Nope...I was responding to this:
“I know what the 1st amendment says. But speech, when it is from an enemy (domestic or foreign), & when it ‘incites’ is not guaranteed (the ‘yelling fire’ in a theatre scenario). We have people taking these lunatics seriously.”
Riddle me this....when is it “legal” to yell fire in a crowded theatre?
Well to each his own. I’m still not clear what your point is or what you thought I meant. Flame away on someone else. Phelps is a despicable piece of crap and the 1st amendment does not give the right to trample over other’s rights. The point I was making about free speech and the 1st amendment was that it is not carte blanche to do anything or say anything at other peoples expense. It was designed to protect political speech and debate. Not to sink crosses in urnine, to run around nude in public, print obscenity or create problems at funerals.
The Constitution has been bastardized and citizens mistakenly believe the protection extends to every vile, disgusting type of behavior that surfaces. It doesn’t and it wasn’t intended that way.
When there is actually a fire.
