AUSTIN — A pair of polls released Tuesday showed Gov. Rick Perry's re-election bid had slipped toward a statistical tie with Democrat Bill White, but both surveys may have reflected more of a short-term Democratic attack than a shift in the race.

One survey commissioned by the Democratic-leaning consumer group Texas Watch showed Perry leading 43 percent to White's 42 percent, a tie within the margin of error. The other poll, commissioned by Democratic philanthropist Bernard Rapoport, had Perry leading 44.4 percent to White's 40.6 percent, a slight lead for the governor.

However, both polls were done in the days after the Democratic Back to Basics PAC ran ads in 24 papers Aug. 24 calling Perry a "Coward" for refusing to debate White. The ad also generated widespread TV news coverage.

AND, LET’S NOT FORGET THE BIG ELECTION/VOTER FRAUD STORY THAT I READ TODAY HERE ON FR! This poll is half way unbelievable. Something is beginning to stink here in Texas.

Is it even thinkable that Texas would elect an Obama lacky?

Straight ticket GOP voting will save Perry, not that we are that crazy about him, but at least he will try to buck BO on the invasion of illegals, something that wimpy White would never do.

I don’t believe either of those polls.

No way White is even with Perry.

Mayor White made Houston into a Sanctuary city. I have a hard time to think of Texas as a Sanctuary State.

White is just another servant of Obama, no way he’ll be elected in Texas. Don’t bet on any appearances with the lighweight JD from Harvard.

The polling was conducted at a joint rally of La Raza and The Communist Workers Party.

I’m not making this up,

Sure you are. Yes, Perry managed Al Gore's presidential campaign...........in 1988! Hell, I voted for Dukakis in 1988 and Clinton in 1992. By 1994, I was securely in the Republican fold.

I see things a lot differently than I did in 1988. But one thing I see clearly: you're an idiot in 2010..

I think Jimmy Olsen is the only white guy who could carry off wearing a green checked suit with a bow tie.

Perry, White

Perry White? Wasn't that Superman's old boss at the Daily Planet just before it folded?

White is just another servant of Obama

It would be helpful if Perry's campaign would mention this. White's commercials make him out to be a secure-border, fiscally responsible conservative.

Would have be nice if Texas Republicans could have had a choice other than Trans-Texas Perry, Kay Babs H, or a 9/11 truther.

The survey of 600 registered voters was done Aug. 25-29 and had a margin of error of plus or minus 4 percentage points.

There are actually three polls involved. The "down to the basics" numbers are presented in only the above one poll of registered voters. However, specific issues like insurance reform are quoted from the other two polls which were of "likely voters" where the final decision, Perry or White, are NOT mentioned.

Also, a poll of "registered voters is "weighed" to give more or less value to a percentage or choice. That is because the Rep. or Dem affiliation is known. Not necessarily true with a poll of just "are you going to vote?"

Additionally, NONE of the factors regarding methodology I have mentioned are presented in the article, so basically this article is a few hand picked points that are probably important to the author, but overall, meaningless.

That being said, Perry needs to come out swinging and he damn well better make the illegals a "top 3" issue. This will force Bill "I am for both parties" White onto the stage of picking a side in the illegal alien issue.

So far, Bill has gotten away with not bringing that subject up. Rick needs to call him out.

.
