Christchurch was the first city in NZ
I had family on the First Four Ships, 1850
Also called the Summer Ships...
Equal to the Mayflower in importance and reverence..
The Church of England sent 16 ship loads of settlers to Canterbury..
The Compact mentioned the Mayflower and promised that the same thing would not happen..
Workmen were sent our ahead of the settlers..
Before the ships arrived there were already roads, houses, stores, wharves etc built and gardens started...
However the road from Lyttle to to Christchurch was not finished..
They arrived in Lyttleton and had to walk over what was called the Bridle Path..Not easy to do...My daughter walked it for the 150th Anniversary ... she was in shorts and sneakers...my ggg grandmother had worn all the petticoats etc and helped several little children as well..
My family lived in Hagley Park for a few weeks until they moved into a house and eventually moved to the Rakaia River area..
Christchurch is a beautiful city ...I hope the destruction is not too bad..
my father was born and raised there on Montreal Street... my grandmothers old house was moved to the Ferrymead project..
We used to visit a lot when I was a child...At that time the names of the passengers on the 4 ships were etched into the sides of the Cathedral just above the sidewalk on all 4 sides of the Canterbury Cathedral in Cathedral Square ...They were easy to read and photograph..We were proud of the names of our family and always spent time there..
PC and dislike for the white mans invasion caused them to be torn up and put in a corner in shiny marbly stuff that reflects everything including the one holding the camera and most people dont know what they mean...
I was last there 2 years ago...Cathedral Square is now more like a Renaissance fair than a Christian center for worship...
POLITICAL CORRECTNESS RUN AMOK . . . HYPOCRITICAL EVIL FROM HELL, imho.
CONGRATS ON QUITE A FAMILY HISTORY.
SO, I gather you still have family there?
Thank you, Lord that no one was killed in spite of this earthquake. Looking at this from a distance I do not think it is just a random coincidence that this quake happened at “ChristChurch” and that none perished. I think this is the heart of our Father in Heaven that none should perish. And even in His Church there is a tremendous shaking going on to awaken and prepare the bride... tearing down structures that get in the way of what He desires to rebuild on a solid foundation. Watch a flood of Truth and Grace flow through this city.
