WASHINGTON Departing White House economist Christina Romer says the government has the tools for bringing down unemployment, but policymakers need to find the will and wisdom to use them.
Romer called on officials Wednesday to move forward on policies that will increase government spending and cut taxes. She also called for investments in infrastructure and new trade agreements.
Also cheaper junk food and less obesity.
Also cheaper energy and less oil drilling and coal mining.
Twinkie Beast: go back to California. Stop spending my children’s money on unions and pork projects.
Speaking of pork, Romer is the Queen of Pork.
More spending, less taxes? What utter morons lead this nation! That’s like saying eat more food and exercise less.
These leftist roaches are destructive critters.
Do any of these “economists” have college credits from a non-Marxist?
Okay...I believe her. More spending.
Yes...then I suggest we cure an alcoholic by giving him a case of beer. These people are insane.
Probably not enough granularity in the graph to show the uptick in unemployment as a result of all the census workers getting cut loose and all the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act road work completing. Oops, I misread - this is the “plan”.
“More spending, less taxes? What utter morons lead this nation!”
GW Bush for 8 years. Now Obama is outshining him.
more vacations - for everybody!
Her fix is MORE spending and tax cuts but she doesn't say what she calls a tax cut. I assume she means more Obama welfare-like temporary tax credits. Right now they plan on raising taxes not cutting taxes. What does she say about that?
Questions:
#1 : Haven't Democrats complained ENDLESSLY about Bush/Republicans cutting taxes while increasing spending? Then she needs to tell us she thinks Bush did the right thing given her proposal. I personally don't agree with them, see #2.
#2 : This crap about spending cuts and tax increases in the future to pay for tax cuts and spending increases now... doesn't that just screw the next guy while rewarding the current guy. I mean, won't the next president feel the need to ‘stimulate’ the economy for jobs like Bush, then Obama, by running up deficits too? Then this pay in the future stuff is nonsense.
That should balance things out. LOL
Read her bio on Wikipedia. Another academic with no real world experience. Her whole life has been in university or “learned societies.”
They still have the damned POS census workers going. I saw three of them in my neighborhood yesterday. Don’t get me started on them. My wife and I had a bizarre census experience, many missed phone calls, muliple phone calls, visits to the door, etc.
I am all for the purpose of the census, but the waste, inefficiency and stupidity of this census appalls me. It makes me angry in ways I just can’t mention.
RE: WH economist calls for more spending, less taxes
There are usually 4 solutions...
* More Spending, Higher Taxes
Jimmy Carter did this and look where it got us...
* More Spending, Less Taxes...
George W. Bush did this. Obama wants us to believe he’s for this but then he would raise Capital Gains taxes, Corporate taxes but retain the Bush Tax cuts for those making less than $250,000.
* Less Spending, More Taxes...
Haven’t heard anyone prescribe this here at all. I think the Greeks and some of the PIIG countries are trying this.
* Less Spending, Less Taxes...
The Supply Side way. This actually occured during Clinton’s second term under a GOP controlled Congress. Result — a BUDGET SURPLUS.
Yeah, and higher wages and cheaper prices.
Wow, sorry. I thought the census was over and all had been let go.
My kid at Penn State said she was harassed by a census worker who said her dorm address wasn’t a legitimate address. The census wouldn’t let me list her on my form to spare her the harassing phone call, and her dumb RA didn’t know students at college were supposed to fill out their own forms so she didn’t know where the forms could be found. I used it as a teachable moment to let my daughter know what it’s like when Government runs amok, and what can happen when you rely on know-nothings to keep you informed.
