"Today we gained votes over my opponent during the absentee ballot count. We remain hopeful that the remaining votes will continue to show improvement in our vote count. Therefore there will be no other statement until the next tally on Friday."

(Likely statement)

I’m giving Murk the benefit of the doubt here.

She really didn’t have to perform shockingly well on the absentees today to win. One of the themes of this election has been “Miller’s late surge”.

She thought it was possible that the absentees could go her way. It was unlikely, but it was possible. It wasn’t unreasonable for her to think the absentees could bring her to victory.

After today’s results, it would be unreasonable for Murkowski to think she could win.

Because she knows that everyone knows this, a concession is the likely outcome of her press conference.

After all, she isn’t a Democrat.
