"I've seen some Jewish FReepers complaining that they have never met a fellow Jew (outside FR) who agrees that Palin should be POTUS."
I've seen many (politically) conservative Jewish people who like Palin but have bought into the lie that she is not smart.
What, like Biden I ask? And personally, I don't think you need to be overly-smart to be a great leader. Jimmy Carter was a nuclear engineer. He was a moron, too. A good leader needs to have defining principals and the ability to discern right from wrong. This comes from G-d. You either have it, or don't.

...bought into the lie that [Palin] is not smart. Seems as if that "dummy" tag on prominent Republicans has been a favorite political smear on the part of the 'Rats in the last 50 years or so. And some of those said to be dumb, like Eisenhower and Ford, weren't even conservatives.
One doesn't need to have a degree from an Ivy League school to have sufficient smarts to be president. Plus, as you said, a moral compass and sense of what the United States is uniquely about are essential as well, and an Ivy league education doesn't necessarily provide that - especially with the domination of the left on elitist college campuses in recent decades.
