There is NO scriptural basis for this and, it preys on those least likely to be able to afford it (i.e. the poor and those on fixed incomes),

I think you are mistakenly assuming that I support Mormonism. I do not. I am a conservative Presbyterian (PCA), and I have seen too many people, my own mother among them, who have been financially devastated by these hucksters, and have had to help many of them with emergency funds so their families can eat, despite their foolishness. I do not believe Beck was telling them to support the Mormon church, as others in this thread have also mentioned.
