Two days after being trounced in the Arizona GOP Senate primary, former Rep. J.D. Hayworth still hasn’t called Sen. John McCain to congratulate him.
And it’s not as if Tuesday night’s outcome was in doubt for very long. McCain eviscerated Hayworth by 24 percentage points and The Associated Press called the race not even a full two hours after the polls closed.
The four-term senator quickly took the stage at the downtown Phoenix Convention Center to declare victory and make it an early night. But the McCain campaign is still a bit surprised it never heard from Hayworth, a former six-term congressman who lost his Scottsdale congressional seat in 2006.
“The Hayworth campaign actually had reached out to us this past weekend to get the appropriate number for him to call for concession,” one McCain aide told POLITICO.
The aide said Hayworth’s spokesman Mark Sanders even tested it on Monday morning to make sure the traditional post-election ritual went smoothly. But the call never came.
Sanders told POLITICO Hayworth had no plans of calling McCain. A message seeking an explanation on why was not immediately returned.

The lying weasel McCain doesn’t deserve a “courstesy” call after lying shamelessly about the issues and his opponent, and spending $21 million to smear Hayworth.

Suppose they would have expected JD to “reach across the aisle” had he won? Just beacuse it is what’s been done in the past?
That’s the problem with DC- what’s been done in the past without getting thrown in jail!
If McCain had done half the dirty tricks to Obama that he dished out to JD, we be calling him President McCain!
Watch how he handles his campaign against the Dem. Bet he goes back to making nicey-nice. He never met a dem he didn’t like, “my friend”.
If I was JD I wouldn’t give mclame the time of day. McLame spent 21 million dollars lying about JD.
We need 535 new folks in DC. the ones there now are destroying this country.
JD, call and say congratulations on lying and deceiving AZ voters once again. when will you revert to the real McCain again? So I can warn the voters.
I understand fully that civility and courtesy have all but disappeared from our popular culture and from many aspects of our public life, but the traditional pol to pol post-election call is still in order.
Refusing to call just makes JD look small, and I don’t believe that is his nature.
I call it as I see it.
So I take it Hayworth won’t be endorsing McCain after all?
And cap-and-tax. McCain authored that one too.
And campaign finance "reform." Oops, McCain was at the heart of that one too.
And his opposition to the tax cuts.
And his advances towards running as John Kerry's VP in 2004.
And his unabashed support of Federal bailouts.
And his collusion with the KLA during the Kosovo War. Nevermind that the KLA is affiliated with al-Qaeda.
And let's not forget McCain's "bipartisan cooperation" with John Kerry in the early '90s to abandon U.S. POWs and MIAs in Vietnam as he embraced his Vietnamese "friends."

I get my tv online thru a FL station. The Scott/McCollum ads were as low on both sides as any I’ve heard. That said, McCollum DID make the traditional courtesy call, then issued his broadside.
I don’t know the details of the Scott affair, so can’t judge. BUT I would remind folks that it’s taken years for Tom DeLay to be cleared, all the while scandal hanging over his head and ending his Congressional career, because of over-eager prosecutors.

Amen! JD gave a very nice speech on election night, and that’s enough.
Say, maybe JD is calling and McCain’s cell phone is an Apple with antenna problems. Hey, McCain, I hear those cell phones work better if you stick’em where the sun don’t shine. Try that and see if you get better reception!
