Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels, a possible presidential candidate in 2012, affirmed Wednesday that Sarah Palin is an energizing force among Republicans but suggested her political reach has its limits.

Daniels instead suggested the country needs a leader with the ability to bring disparate factions together to solve what he named as the primary problems facing the country: the growing debt and national security.
"Let me say it this way," Daniels said. "To do the sort of things that I personally believe are necessary for the American experiment to continue as anything like we have known it, that is for us to be a place of hope and upward mobility, I believe we are going to have to do some very decisive things."
Daniels said "the only way for these improbable things to occur" is that "a broad coalition of people, broader than we're used to lately, would have to agree, maybe to set aside disagreements on other things, because if we don't deal with the debt problem, if we don't face squarely the new threats to our lives in a national security context, some of these other disagreements aren't going to matter very much at all."

I do not think Palin’s power is waning.
It may level off but I do not believe it is waning.
Palin generates enthusiasm and energy. That is her conservative strength.

Be careful.... the MSM is trying to convince many conservatives to look at Mitch, I believe that many in the GOP think that Romney is beyond damage goods and can’t pull it off, so the republican establishment and MSM is looking for a “consensus” guy!

America needs a conservative leader with the ability to divide and conquer
Talk of bipartisanship got us exactly where we are today. We need a new movement to vanquish and crush the institutionalized national cancer that the federal government has become. Mitch Daniels was budget director overseeing the spread of this cancer by defining the slower rate of growth of federal spending as a cut. That definition of a cut is b.s. He is simply another Believer in Government solutions to every problem, just slightly cheaper than liberals.

actually Palin was that sort of candidate. Remember in Alaska, she had support from the democrats, thats why she was able to pass alot of her agenda thru.
It was only after her selection for VP pick, that the DEM turned on her in full force
1) Liberals don’t compromise. I’ tired of the bi-partisanship that screws conservatives.
2) I’m on the fence with Palin lately over some of her decisions. Yet everytime they act this way towards her my natural inclination is to rally to her defense. It’s the same way I used to be to GWB before he started attacking us. I wish these people would just stop it for everyone’s sake. I have learned from the experience with GWB and I won’t defend Palin instinctively just because I dislike the elitism and condecension they display but damn if they don’t tempt me to do so.
Palin’s word isn’t law but she has a lot of influence, a loyal support group and if she’s not the most influential Kingmaker in Republican politics today she has to be in the Top 3. I’d put DeMint up there too. It’s foolish to pretend otherwise or that their politics are devisive. Only in the beltway...

We need conservatives like Paul Ryan, Darrell Issa, etc. to run for the presidency.
Daniels is another RINO and recently stated he rejects the social conservatives.

Leave it to a snarky CNN blogger to emphasize the Sarah Palin angle.
Focus on what Mitch says and suggests — because it worked wonderfully in Indiana. Likewise, many Freepers will object to Chris Christie not be 120% against the Ground Zero Mosque for whatever reason. Both of these guys recognize where the priorities of their states should be, and I suspect, if either has ambitions involving a White House run, see the same kinds of issues (in SPADES) at the national level.
Let’s let them make their case — the problems the big spenders have caused in this country will take years and huge coalitions of the PEOPLE to address and confront.
Reagan did something similar back in 1980 — but even he didn’t go far enough and failed to rein in government spending and the growth of entitlements and the bureaucracy. We only get a chance (and a leader) like Reagan once ever few generations, so this next opportunity, let’s complete the project.
