Pakistani flood victims' anger at US
BBC ^ | 8/21/2010 | Jill McGivering

Displaced people are camping everywhere. Shelters of canvas and plastic sheeting line the edges of the highways linking Islamabad to Peshawar in the north-west of the country.

The roads are raised, a precious strip of dry land in a sea of stagnant floodwater and thick mud.

I stopped at one makeshift camp and a group of men rushed forward as soon as I got out of the car, crowding round.

One was a thin-faced man in his 40s called Iftikhar.

He pointed to the swamped ground beyond the railway tracks and the remains of his village. His house had been badly damaged, he said.

Even though the waters were starting to recede, it was too unstable for him to move back there with his six daughters.

We desperately need help from the government, so we can rebuild," he told me.

Obummer doesn’t like to be bothered while playing golf, or on vacation! Maybe after play time, he’ll give them our money.

...so it’s our fault it’s raining?

And I’m guessing we need higher taxes and wealth redistribution to them to fix it?

*rolls eyes*

They want to kill the USA infidels but yet also wants their help? Oh we get it—first we help them and then they kill us later. Such a deal.

I differ from you folks.

If we are able to show the Paki’s that the US stands behind their misery, and truly wishes to help them out, the potential goodwill may just pay itself back many, many times over.

What’s $500 milllion in aid to these desperate people, when Pelosi can piss away that much for funding studies as why rats fornicate in the NYC sewer systems.

Yeah, I know that these people all want gimmee’s, so would you if everything you owned, and where you work was instantly trash - no future, no money, no job, family responsibilities.

If we could convert Paki to some form of democratic rule as they could look to the US as friends in need, it would be a hell of alot cheaper than bringing in the battlewagons.

(We were well on the way of capturing the Iraqi’s hearts, until Karpinski and Lyndee Englund decided to parade proud nude men around on leashes. Then the locals felt that we were mocking them, and things immediately turned ugly.)

I used to believe that, but after the tsunami, and the billions we gave away to Africa allegedly to fight AIDS....no more. Fool me once...

“Great. A 14th century country with nukes populated by democrats.”

Otherwise known as America 2025, unless we start putting conservatives in office starting in November!

Not a chance. If these people haven’t changed from their 14th century mindset by now, they never will. How much of our tax dollars have already been sunk in that crap hole of a country? Do you remember hearing any gratitude? I don’t.

Others blamed the West, including the US, for failing to give enough help.

They hate us and call us The Great Satan but when they can't take care of themselves they cry that we're not there. How much aid did these whining Pakis give for Katrina?

According to the latest figures from Pakistan's National Disaster Management Authority, the United States heads the list of donors with $76 million in cash, plus goods and services that are said to be worth another $11 million. Great Britain is No. 2, with $50 million. China, which is popular in Pakistan, has offered $9 million.

There has been criticism of Muslim countries not giving enough, which seems to have stung some to reach into their pockets. Saudi Arabia has delivered $44 million, while Turkey is to give $11 million.

Many energy-rich Middle Eastern countries are being less than generous, however. Qatar has pledged just $400,000. Pakistan's neighbor to the west, Iran, is giving $800,000, while the United Arab Emirates has no pledge that the Pakistani authorities have recorded.

We can't buy their friendship. Their leaders use hatred of the west to control the population. Remember, they were officially on the Taliban's side until September 12, 2001. I doubt the billions we have given them in the last 9 years has changed that much.

I remember him. He was wearing an Osama bin Laden tee-shirt and crying “where are the Americans?”

My husband and I were stunned by the irony of it.

Is it just me, or are the taxpayers in the US getting tired of this crap?

It’s not just you. We are the most generous and giving nation the world has ever seen and we are constantly getting attitude like this. And we have a president who is always willing to apologize for our stingy, selfish Americans.
Tired and Fed up are words too mild to apply to these ungrateful recipients of our generosity.
