This is very sad news. John posted an article on his cancer treatment this Monday.

From the article, one wish of John's:

Changing subjects abruptly, part of the goal of my surgery was to be ready on 12 September to March down Constitution Avenue with 38 of my fellow citizens, dressed as the signers of the Constitution. I get to be Ben Franklin. There should be about a million Americans there. I hope the American press might even notice and cover that event.

John and his wife Michelle married in summer 2008, and a nice article from the New York Times told their story.

I'm further saddened that, despite having helped him in 2008 with his campaign, I never got a chance to meet John in person. He was very active in events all over the state.

Thanks for the ping, MitchellC. I had the baby-duty last night, right after the news came up on the NC Board.

I might have met John if he was at Fayetteville in 2005, but I think his articles were a lot like sitting around his house with a drink, watching the view, and listening to him talk. A full life and a distinguished career.

I’ll have to email Anoreth now.
