Has he ever applied for an entry level position with a manager level work experience? You don’t get the job...I know from experience.
That being said, I haven’t hit 99 weeks, but it’s been way too long.
Managers don’t like it when their underlings are more qualified for their job then they are.
Yes, there are some who are milking the system (there always are), but for many, they just cannot get anyone to hire them. This is especially true for those over 55.
I’ve been there. I owned my own business. An Alaska fishing lodge that was struggling because of fishery closures but I still had to make the payments and feed 5 kids.
When I went looking for work I let no-one know what I actually did. Got a grunt level construction job (labor). I was 40 and everyone assumed I was some loser.Their words) Who cares. It payed some bills and helped me to save my business.
I have applied for work equally as you mentioned...but I downplayed my resume to fit the position...and I got the job.
..that works both ways...people tend to inflate what they actually have done to one degree or another and companies know this...but to get a job that is less than desirable in order to work and make your own money...you have to bite the bullit of pride and down grade your resume to fit the job requirements they are asking for....It is humbling but you are then in the running. it is way better to be working...’All work is honorable”...then to be without work.
The last time I applied for a job I “dumbed” down the application. No resume submitted at all.
I didn’t brag about what I now call my “past-life,” but did focus on the skills needed for the job applied for.
I got the job.
I didn’t lie, just didn’t feel they needed to know I decommissioned several nuclear reactors. Seriously...LOL.
