Ruling against Prop. 8 makes marriage unconstitutional, Archbishop Kurtz says

.- In an exclusive interview, Archbishop Joseph Kurtz spoke to CNA about the decision of District Judge Vaughn Walker to overturn California’s Proposition 8, which defined marriage as being between one man and one woman. Archbishop Kurtz remarked that the ruling against the proposition “in a sense … declared marriage to be unconstitutional.”

Archbishop Kurtz, who is the Chairman of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops Ad Hoc Committee for the Defense of Marriage and Family Life, stated in his interview with CNA that Judge Walker’s decision “to say that marriage as the union of one man and woman is now to be considered unconstitutional ... precisely because as he said, he could not find a compelling rational purpose for marriage,” could truly be considered "outrageous."

He also affirmed interviewer Dr. John Haas’ statement that, “in a sense, he has declared marriage to be unconstitutional, because there is no such thing as ‘gay marriage’,” since true marriage requires a man and a woman.

Describing the implications of the ruling, Archbishop Kurtz recalled a reaction he heard to it, saying, “marriage has simply become a governmental registry of friendships. It’s simply looking at adult friendships and turning them in a sense into what we call marriage.”

The archbishop also noted that the Catholic Church’s teaching on the nature of marriage is based in the natural law and not on the popular vote or on polls. However, he did mention that in every single state where marriage has been “brought before the people, they have all confirmed, in every state, the fact, the conviction, that marriage is the union of one man and one woman.”

It is still imperative to fight for marriage, Archbishop Kurtz declared, saying also that the Church must continue her efforts to pastorally support married couples “so that they could live the fullness of their married life.”

Read Official Declaration 1 again carefully, you will find that it only says the Church will no longer authorize new plural marriages, because of the government's threat to use force. It never rescinds the doctrine of D&C 132 or says that polygamy is wrong. In fact, it leaves the practice it open to being reinstituted in the future once the government backs off. D&C 132 is still Mormon canon and it Requires polygamy for Exaltation.

Mormons are also able to be involved in spiritual polygamy today. A man can marry one woman in the temple. If his wife dies and he remarries another woman, he gets to keep all of the wives in the Celestial Kingdom. Also if a wife divorces him and doesn't get a cancellation of her sealing from the President of the Church and the husband gets married to another woman, then he would be sealed to both the women even in this life.

BTW, women who live together and/or who are having sex with the same man would become regulated by pheromones and tend to have fertile periods and periods at the same time.

Back in the old days of Mormonism, the polygamist wives didn't necessarily live with each other in the same home. Often times they lived in separate houses, though it also could live under the same roof too.

but the requirement for "celestial marriage" continues for the highest degree of glory, only now it is monogamous.

The leadership has waffled on this issue owing to the bad PR stigma that polygamy has on the church. However, it is not technically true from a doctrinal perspecitve. Many Mormon's are unfamiliar with the Church's doctrine and might say that only one sealing is necessary for exaltation, but that is not doctrinally true, and many devout members and many of the Church leaders will tell this privately.

D&C 132 is still canon and requires polygamy for living in the highest degree of the Celestial Kingdom. Obviously, many Mormons will not be sealed to more than one woman and therefore aren't eligible for the highest degree of the "Celeestial Kingdom". So how do these Mormons justify not receiving polygamous marriages that are required for exaltation according to D&C 132? Easy. Moromons believe in proxy work for the dead, so if polygamy is necessary for exaltation and a good Mormon isn't able to participate in it in this life because the Church wouldn't allow them to do so in this life, then they can simply be sealed by proxy after they're dead, probably during Christ's Millenial Reign.

Yes, by destroying marriage they continue to destroy the nuclear family, and that plays into dependency on the federal government for security and basic needs.

Did he speak against it? If not, then all is fair game.

I know what you're inferring, that lack of condemnation is tacit approval. But this is a false accussation. God didn't speak against slavery either, other than the provision for them to be freed and the allowance to be a voluntary "bond slave" to a master whom you love as family.

What the homoactivists incessantly parrot is that polygamy was explicitly mandated and blessed by God. It wasn't, but not really reading the Bible, the homo-perverts wouldn't know.

I’d not limit it to just Catholics. They want to destroy anyone who stands in their way. It’s about control.

They’re gods unto themselves and worship at the altar of death.
