House Democrats on Tuesday pushed through a $26 billion jobs bill to protect 300,000 teachers and other nonfederal government workers from election-year layoffs.

The bill would be paid for mainly by closing a tax loophole used by multinational corporations and reducing food stamp benefits for the poor. It passed mainly along party lines by a vote of 247-161.

Representatives scattered around the country and world for the August break were summoned back to Washington for the one-day session as Democrats stressed the need to act before children return to classrooms missing teachers laid off because of budgetary crises in the states.

I swear, Mr. Obama couldn’t close an umbrella.

Is that anything like the country saying: He couldn't pour piss out of a boot with the instrcutions on the heel?

So one may suppose all the nation’s ‘teachers’ will vote Democrat. Teaching corruption and self-interest seems to pay pretty well; question is, what dooes that ‘teach’ the kids about American life?

Where in the Constitution...........

I guess you're against supporting these hard-working teachers. Remember, it's for the children. Maybe you hate children, too.

Bailouts? While probably a good thing, I did not know a large group of teachers had been arrested.

26B at 50K a head works out to about 560K teachers...I hope they attacted somekind of limitation stating the money must go to TEACHING teachers, not some group of fat ass liberal administrators.

How the hell does the teachers get lumped in with essential services like the cops and fire fighters? Why not janitors, garbage men, window washers, ridiculous!

I guess there aren't already enough reasons for corporations to do or increase their US business so congress decided we needed more. China and India will sure love it.
