Sarah Palin Gets Snarky on a Schoolteacher (Newsweak)
Newsweek ^ | August 09, 2010 | Ben Adler, journ0list

Posted on 08/09/2010 7:19:33 PM PDT by onyx

Former Alaska governor Sarah Palin's carefully crafted image as a regular hockey mom has taken a few hits since her unsuccessful vice presidential bid.

~snips~

But all those who wonder whether revelations of her personal prima donna qualities will damage her image are proceeding from an assumption that she does, in fact, disguise her self-centered side well in managed environments. I've long disagreed with that assessment, because her famous Facebook postings often have the tone of a nasty, snotty, slightly dense but popular high-school girl. Sample recent line: "Okay, Mr. President, you tell us we have to keep looking backward (as we’re steered toward the cliff)."

Palin's dark side came out in full effect this weekend, and this time the victim was not President Obama but a schoolteacher in small-town Alaska. Palin was there to film segment of a nature program on TLC, and she confronted Kathleen Gustafson who was holding up a sign reading "WORST GOVERNOR EVER." Palin clearly intended to disarm Gustafson with her charm, but instead got defensive.

Gustafson, said, "You swore on your precious Bible that you would uphold the interests of this state, and then when cash was waved in front of your face, you quit." To which Palin responded, her tone dripping with unamusing sarcasm, "Oh, you wanted me to be your governor! I’m honored! Thank you!" Palin went on to use the same tone of nasal condescension when saying she was "honored" that Gustafson considers her a celebrity.

It's true, schoolteachers are definitely not a Republican constituency, but anyone, even a Republican, running for president needs to make nice with them on a personal level, just as Democrats do with the military or police officers. This latest incident won't help Palin's negative favorability ratings.

Whoever bought NewsWEAK got ripped off..I wouldn’t have bought that crap for 25 cents. Yeah you can clearly see the skip in the video. Its edited so poorly my 7 year old cousin could have done a better job. Your watching it then you see this huge skip, its hysterical. I’d like to know what Sarah said to hear that had to be edited. Perhaps what she said is the reason why the protester calms down and actually acts civil towards her after wards. Hey if the media demanded that the Sherrod video in its entirety is released, I think we should demand this video is released in its entirety, but I bet Shannyn already erased it

Yes, that was indeed refreshing. The only honesty to drip from Ben’s poison pen.

Huge mistake, or is it hugh?

From what I saw on the video SP defused the confrontation and created a friendly discussion with this slightly obnoxious woman.

Governor Palin did the same thing in Juneau after the election. Lefties protested her and she came out and talked to them for about 20 min.

This is why I like Palin. She's not afraid of the liberal media and isn't going to play their games. If Bush would have done the same he would have won two landslides instead of nail-biters.

Newsweek Blogger: Tea Party Coverage Isn’t Harsh Enough

Tue, 06/22/2010

Newsweek blogger Ben Adler thinks the national media are giving the Tea Parties gentle treatment.

“Unfortunately,” Adler wrote in a June 21 post, “what appear to be false notions of objectivity - or perhaps a lack of interest in policy - is preventing that coverage from illuminating what the movement actually represents and what it would do if empowered.”

Adler complained that a recent Associated Press article, “Enraged to Engaged: Tea partiers explain why,” failed to examine the ideology of the demonstrators in the grassroots conservative movement.

“The piece examines how and why a variety of individuals became involved in the Tea Party movement without once asking what precisely the platform consists of,” Adler said, leading one to wonder if he even read the article.

The 2,300-word “stemwinder,” as Adler called it, written by reporter Pauline Arrillaga, presented various segments of Tea Party ideology on five separate occasions.

I hope articles like these make more folks watch the video, I was worried when I heard about it but jubilant when I saw how well Sarah came off. In your face libs (and bitter Palin-haters on FR). Whoops, I guess I’m “worshipping” Sarah again. Heh heh.

The only snarky or snotty tone in that article was from the limp-wristed author. Palin could kick his sorry gay *ss all the way down to the lower 48 without losing her smile, breaking a sweat or chipping her nail polish.

This screed by Adler hardly rises to the level of a newsmagazine valued at $1.

Ben Adler is a journolister... Number three on this list

In other words, he has no credibility, period, especially when it comes to Sarah Palin!

Excellent points, but she *is* the front runner and she did carry the ticket, and they’re still trying to take her down, but she keeps coming back stronger and refudiating all of them.

Go Sarah Go! Get ‘em!

If the libs think this is snarky....well they must be sensitive skinned little things. Frankly, I think she was quite polite given the teacher's continually negative comments. At least Sarah is willing to engage in a conversation with someone in the opposition rather than blowing them off or flat out telling a constituent that their opinions don't matter.

She found something upon which they both agreed (freedom of speech) and ended the conversation on a positive note.

Oh, and the last time someone had a problem with a nasally voice, it was elected president. (Truman)

Wasn’t this “teacher” one of the people who tried to drive Governor Palin into the poor house with false ethics charges?

Ben Adler’s comment about Palin on Journolist...

Politico reporter Ben Adler, now at Newsweek, writing,

“… doesn’t leaving sad baby without its mother while she campaigns weaken that family values argument?”

She came off so good in the video she even posted the video on her facebook page, told everyone to check it out. Poor progressive loon Shannyn Moore, she wanted to set Sarah up so badly, but instead of Sarah looking bad, she posts the video on her facebook page and says “Hey everyone check out this video” poor poor Shannyn..yeah I guess I’m a worshiper too, I already gave a thumbs up to the cardboard cutout I have of her in my room LOL

That might have been true in the old days, but I don’t think it applies in this 24/7 entertainment news media which passes for journa0lism.

How many articles and reports have we seen about Michelle’s trip to Spain?

I have duly noted your use of “effective” leader. I don’t not misunderestimate Sarah Palin. She’ll be effective with the congress and governorship’s she’s building.
