Sarah Palin Gets Snarky on a Schoolteacher (Newsweak)
Newsweek ^ | August 09, 2010 | Ben Adler, journ0list

Posted on 08/09/2010 7:19:33 PM PDT by onyx

Former Alaska governor Sarah Palin's carefully crafted image as a regular hockey mom has taken a few hits since her unsuccessful vice presidential bid.

~snips~

But all those who wonder whether revelations of her personal prima donna qualities will damage her image are proceeding from an assumption that she does, in fact, disguise her self-centered side well in managed environments. I've long disagreed with that assessment, because her famous Facebook postings often have the tone of a nasty, snotty, slightly dense but popular high-school girl. Sample recent line: "Okay, Mr. President, you tell us we have to keep looking backward (as we’re steered toward the cliff)."

Palin's dark side came out in full effect this weekend, and this time the victim was not President Obama but a schoolteacher in small-town Alaska. Palin was there to film segment of a nature program on TLC, and she confronted Kathleen Gustafson who was holding up a sign reading "WORST GOVERNOR EVER." Palin clearly intended to disarm Gustafson with her charm, but instead got defensive.

Gustafson, said, "You swore on your precious Bible that you would uphold the interests of this state, and then when cash was waved in front of your face, you quit." To which Palin responded, her tone dripping with unamusing sarcasm, "Oh, you wanted me to be your governor! I’m honored! Thank you!" Palin went on to use the same tone of nasal condescension when saying she was "honored" that Gustafson considers her a celebrity.

It's true, schoolteachers are definitely not a Republican constituency, but anyone, even a Republican, running for president needs to make nice with them on a personal level, just as Democrats do with the military or police officers. This latest incident won't help Palin's negative favorability ratings.

Kathleen Gustafson - she is not a teacher but a “Theater Tech” at Homer High School.

This screed by Adler hardly rises to the level of a newsmagazine valued at $1.

Best post here, along with the one about Sarah being able to kick his arse to the lower 48 without breaking a sweat, chipping her nail polish or losing her smile.

The only snarky or snotty tone in that article was from the limp-wristed author. Palin could kick his sorry gay *ss all the way down to the lower 48 without losing her smile, breaking a sweat or chipping her nail polish.

Just for you and because I agree...lol.

Yep that was the biggest slip of the tongue ever. I give the guy credit for being honest. We all knew that the Dems are against the Military, we see it everyday, but that one comment puts it into writing what we all knew

Whoever bought NewsWEAK got ripped off. Its value is not even a dollar, a dollar is way too much. 10 cents makes more sense

Sorry - she sounds like overused bumper sticker cliches. But she does have a nice butt and a great wink which should garner most of the male votes along with, ‘I’d Hit It!’

“And she’s no way in hell a Ronald Reagan. That’s another notion that needs to be dispelled. “

I don’t expect or want her to be a Reagan. I want her to be a Sarah. Have you read the rest of the posts to this thread? I believe they prove you wrong.

Beautifully stated, dear MWestMom! Sarah’s grace and her willingness to engage always makes her the winner. Like you said, she found common ground and she came out the superior person.

Your are correct. He had those perfect kids. You know the ones who campaigned against him running for office.

I guess you got stuck with the midnight shift on troll duty. So, whom do you like for 2012 based on the potential GOP and Democratic contenders?

Let me take a wild guess what your response will be: “I haven't made up my mind yet.”/sarc.

Second time I’ve been asked the same question and I just don’t know. I’m slowly going through this thread, so maybe someone’s answered.

Scintillating intellect you've got there. You show a really amazing ability to frame a debate.

Are you a teacher too?

*rolls eyes*

I’d be embarrassed to write for a magazine that was purchased for 1$. But then again, I’m not little journalista boy Ben Adler.

Shannyn Moore is the crackpot idiot post-adolescent that instigated, orchestrated and perpetuated the campaign of frivolous lawsuits against Palin in the effort to force her into bankruptcy. The juvenile lawsuits cost the state of Alaska vast sums to process and resolve each lawsuit, which were all dismissed as frivolous, but that was not the point. And Palin got a little snippy at her obnoxious question? Good for her! About time!
