Vikings safety Husain Abdullah awaits Ramadan fast

MANKATO, Minn. — Husain Abdullah is approaching his most challenging month of the football season.

That's when the Minnesota Vikings backup safety observes Ramadan, the Islamic month of fasting and prayer. As a practicing Muslim, Abdullah will not eat or drink at all during daylight hours for the 30-day period that begins Wednesday.

Even while sprinting in the heat and humidity during drills, sometimes in full pads, Abdullah is adamant about his faith. He will not allow himself so much as a cup of water until the sun sets and before it rises.

"I'm putting nothing before God, nothing before my religion," Abdullah said. "This is something I choose to do, not something I have to do. So I'm always going to fast."

How hot is it expected to be during the day? Will he refuse to go to the hospital for treatment (because they will give him fluids) if he collapses from the heat?

This MUZZIE “back-up” is angling for a big payday when the team dumps him. He will claim they got rid of him because of his religion and I’ll bet he already has a MUZZIE lawyer waiting in the wings. They’ll dump him because if you don’t and drink propperly you can not perform.

Can he get around his religious obligation not to drink by using IV fluids instead? Maybe he can cheat even further by mixing the IV fluids with bacon grease.

I still remember the Korey Stringer death due to heat stroke nine years ago.
Training with no fluid intake spells big trouble.

If his religion is so important, why did he choose a pro football career? If nothing comes before the religion of misogyny and child diddling, then he needs to find a different job. Just sayin’.

Well if he drops dead on the field from heat stroke, the first thing I will say is, “It’s Allah’s Will.”

Easter has gone from May to March, 3 months. December to September is 4 months, not that big of a difference.

No. That will be February when he will be watching two other teams battle out who's best.

Aww, isn’t that cute, he thinks he being faithful. I hope his team mates are prepared should this mohammedan’s faithfulness take the next big step.

They had better keep him away from machetes and long knives if they want to live to see the playoffs.

Eating isn’t a problem. Fluids might be, but a guy can drink a 6-8 liters in the 2-3 hours prior to dawn and not have a real problem, especially if there is an early morning practice and a light practice in the afternoon. Could also do his weight and endurance training after dark.

It’s not that difficult.

As a Green Bay fan, I hope that he can convince all of his other teammates to do the same.

Yep! They have parties. From what I know, they eat whatever they want at night, festivities, etc. Like Mardi Gras before lent they’ll have big parties etc. Actually sounds like a lot of fun.

I still remember the Korey Stringer death due to heat stroke nine years ago. Training with no fluid intake spells big trouble.

And the Stringer family sued the Vikings because Korey didn't drink enough fluid... If this guy dies on the practice field, his family will do the same. If the Vikings cut him for not keeping with the others trying out for the same position, he will sue for religious bias. If this guy wants to be part of an improved secondary instead of the one that got picked apart by Drew Breeze in last season's NFC Championship, he needs to be 100% everyday of training camp and everyday after. This is just a way of slacking off when the rest of the team is giving it their all.
