Voter outrage subsides, but anxiety deepens
Washington Post ^ | August 8, 2010 | Karen Tumulty

CHARLOTTE COURT HOUSE, VA. -- The crowds that have been showing up for Democratic Rep. Tom Perriello's town halls have been smaller and more polite than the angry throngs he saw during last August's raucous congressional recess. Catcalls about socialism and death panels have given way to substantive and pointed questions -- about the intricacies of the new health-care law and financial regulations, finding alternative energy sources...Most of all, people want to talk about the economy.

Virginia's largely rural 5th Congressional District, first represented in Congress by James Madison, is a good place to see what Democrats across the country are up against...

Gale-force outrage -- both the real kind and the kind manufactured for television -- has faded this August. There is still the occasional outburst: On Saturday, the Lynchburg Tea Party Patriots hastily called a rally outside a Perriello town hall in Fork Union to demand that he vote against $26 billion in aid to state and local governments when the House reconvenes...

But when the shouting dies down, it becomes possible to hear something else, something Democrats know is an even greater threat to them this fall. With polls consistently showing that dissatisfaction with Washington is at or near record levels, another word for what voters are feeling right now might be "frustration," or "despair," or "disgust."...

So Democratic House leaders sent their members home for August with pocket cards of talking points headlined "WE CAN'T GO BACK" and a list of weekly messages to push...Last week was "Make It in America" week, to be followed by "Protecting Social Security Week," "Consumer Protection Week," "Small Business Week" and "Troops & Veterans Week." The week of Sept. 6 will bring a reprise of "Make It in America" week....

"It's the quiet one's you have to watch out for".

We made our voices heard, loud and clear, prior to government healthcare and bailouts being shoved up our collective butts.

This past year, I believe, have taught us THEY DON'T CARE WHAT WE THINK.

Fine. No more shouting or heated arguments.......we'll see you in November. Have a GREAT day a$$holes!

“and instead uses eye-catching headlines to sell more newspapers.”

I think it uses them to sell Zero’s agenda.

It will be a tidal wave. Bill Kristol mentioned 60 seats today on Fox and the AP reporterette was stunned. I think 60 seats at a minimum. Could be as high as an 80 seat swing.

I agree with you!

Your reply is the exact reason that the libs hair is on fire all the time. They cannot believe that this is still a center-right country, after all these decades of indoctrination.

Last year our Congressmen played us for fools pretending like they were going to listen to us at the townhalls. This year we get to play them for fools pretending like we’re not angry at them anymore.

Dear Karen Tumulty: The anger and rage is double what you saw last August. But we are sick of going and trying to make our voices heard. You should be doubly afraid of the new silent electorate—we are the ones that have given up on you and your lib friends. Where once you could have listened and changed course, now all there is to do is to throw all of your statist friends out of office. We will do it quietly and without fanfare, until Nov 2nd, then all hell will break loose, and you will be left on the sidelines, wondering where all your lib friends went. Things look rosier to you this August? What a fool you are.

You are right about that. Dumb AND agenda-driven and desperately in need of a makeover. But the Post encourages it and lets her get away with it.

Once an outraged voter makes up their mind, they become literally silent, just like a wronged customer who does not complain openly, but never does business with “that” store or company again and persuades other customers to do the same. November, 2010 is coming rapidly, the silent voter will speak out loudly and clearly, and Barack Hussein Obama and the Democrat Party will not like it, one bit. VOTE ON NOVEMBER 2, 2010 TO DESTROY THE ENTIRE DEMOCRAT PARTY!!!

“...I cannot get them to understand that they should be as mad as I am.”

It may help to tell them that if the Democrats stay in power, there will be an even worse depression in the economy and their jobs may be the next ones eliminated after Nov. 2. Businesses will flee this country and there will be no hope for change in the economy. That should spur even the distracted to focus on the issue of survival, both national and personal.

That article is not written out of ignorance but propaganda. People need to stop having the presupposition that the left is merely mis informed and have the presupposition that their intention is to directly demoralize the society. If you know that they are doing that you can be intentional about your response to their propaganda.

Bingo. In customer service training, it’s the “walkers” not the “talkers” you have to worry about. Millions of “walkers” will give the socialists a serious jolt this November.

The crowds that have been showing up for Democratic Rep. Tom Perriello's town halls have been smaller and more polite than the angry throngs he saw during last August's raucous congressional recess.

They pack the audience with ringers loaded with pre-approved questions:

"Tell us Representative Perriello, what makes you so wonderful?"

This year people who really care about saving America aren't wasting their time on these strutting buffoons - they are staying at home reloading their brass and cleaning their rifles.

It will be a landslide. I know of 2 life long middle aged democrats that voted for the won who recently reregistered as republicans and are mad as hell at the rats in office.

It’s amazing what happens when you choose your audience!
The real story is that even the blind, deaf, and dumb are asking pointed questions!

This is just the WaPo telling us we aren’t angry anymore. They are trying to set the agenda.
