Most Livable State in the U.S.A. Is...
...New Hampshire. This is the fifth consecutive year the Granite State has topped this list published by CQ Press.
New Hampshire ranks No. 1 because it excels in numerous important quality-of-life measures, including low crime, low poverty, high income levels and a well-educated population. Coming in right behind New Hampshire are Utah, Wyoming, Minnesota and Iowa.
The least livable state is Mississippi, a position it has held on this CQ Press list for nine of the last 10 years. Close behind Mississippi are South Carolina, Kentucky, Tennessee and Arkansas.

Mississippi...if it wasn’t for the skeeters and poison ivy, we’d be top-ten fer shure.
“The most liberal state in the union is Rhode Island, which surpasses those traditional liberal hotbeds of Massachusetts”
Who died and made them king?
Oh wait, now I remember.
“Coronado”
You are living in the best climate on earth and stunning coastal beauty. Enjoy.
My home state of CA is dying. My mom is still there. We left almost 15 years ago for central virginia which is equally beautiful in a different way and has 4 seasons.
VA still makes sense politically although it flirts with disaster on occasion. We have a new conservative administration doing the Right Stuff, and it has been governed conservatively enough over the past decades that it is not a steaming turmoil of marxist wreckage. Thank God.
Good luck in CA.
I have complete confidence in the Good Dr’s assessment.
The results of the Aug. 24 senatorial primary will prove your comment illusory.
Lexington, KY is a really neat town. Plus it’s close to Louisville and Cincy. And the Cincy airport is on the KY side of the river, closer to Lexington, so there’s good access to a bigger airport.
Misleading title. < 10,000 pop is *not* a city.
Mississippi is a hellhole,....for liberals.
Good advice...all of New England is a "dead end"...
Glad Texas is toward the Bottom of the list
Its misirable here. Snakes and Scorpins every where. Hot and dry, nothing but Cactus and tumbleweeds.
The ground wont grow anything, and the cities are wastelands.
Stay away from Texas.
How are all the least livable states in the South? Personally, I think it would be heck to live in New Hampshire (no offense to NH FReepers) Oh well, maybe the list will keep all the liberal, anti-south freaks away...
Well-educated population = arrogant, rude, self-absorbed democrats.
You must not have heard we can’t call them Chiggers anymore we must call them Chigroes.
**we might be po but wes proud, Mississippi ping.***
The UNOFFICIAL motto of Arkansas is...”Thank God For Mississippi!”
Without them Arkansas would be on the bottom of ALL lists(excepting the NW corner of Arkansas).
LOL!!!
You are right about the surveys being inane. How else to explain why NJ [#8 livable] is offloading thousands of people on us in Delaware [#28 livable]. The developers down here are going bonkers putting up vinyl boxes for all the people escaping the tax hell of NJ.
Mt View Ark is one of my favorite places in the country.
The only other place I could imagine would be Wyoming (near the mountains and less people) or the area up by the Tetons in Idaho or Montana. However, I don’t see moving that far north. I like winter but not that much.
DH and I are looking at retiring on the western slope. Ridgeway is gorgeous and not as snowed in in the winter as Ouray. I agree, Colorado for me. Don’t live in the Springs, but live in Douglas county, the next best thing!
Arkansas too—it just sucks! I SOOOOO hate looking out my back door every day and seeing the rolling green hills of the Ozarks. It’s just horrible beyond comprehension :)
Besides, you probably wouldn’t like our sweet tea and BBQ anyway. I won’t tell you about the wineries either :P It’s sheer hell.
Plus, we talk kind of funny.
