Most Livable State in the U.S.A. Is...

...New Hampshire. This is the fifth consecutive year the Granite State has topped this list published by CQ Press.

New Hampshire ranks No. 1 because it excels in numerous important quality-of-life measures, including low crime, low poverty, high income levels and a well-educated population. Coming in right behind New Hampshire are Utah, Wyoming, Minnesota and Iowa.

The least livable state is Mississippi, a position it has held on this CQ Press list for nine of the last 10 years. Close behind Mississippi are South Carolina, Kentucky, Tennessee and Arkansas.

The most livable states: How does your state rank? 1. New Hampshire 2. Utah 3. Wyoming 4. Minnesota 5. Iowa 6. Nebraska 7. New Jersey 8. Vermont 9. Idaho 10. North Dakota

11. Connecticut 12. Virginia 13. Massachusetts 14. Colorado 15. South Dakota 16. Maryland 17. Kansas 18. Washington 19. Montana 20. Maine

21. Hawaii 22. Oregon 23. Wisconsin 24. New York 25. Rhode Island 26. Illinois 27. Delaware 28. Florida 29. Alaska 30. California and Indiana (tie)

32. Oklahoma 33. New Mexico 34. Pennsylvania 35. Nevada 36. Arizona 37. Texas 38. Michigan 39. Missouri 40. Georgia and Ohio (tie)

42. North Carolina 43. West Virginia 44. Alabama 45. Louisiana 46. Arkansas 47. Tennessee 48. Kentucky 49. South Carolina 50. Mississippi

I expect to see a 15-20 percent slump in average home prices through next year, aside from a few locations that have a bit of “immunity.” There are tons of very nice homes currently in foreclosure or abandoned. I know of four foreclosed homes in the nicest subdivision in our small town, and I'm sure we'll see many more next year.

However, the quality of life here in the panhandle remains high, because the quality of our people is unusual. This is a rock-solid Christian conservative area, and people help each other through rough times.

Oh, we have a few liberal nut-bags, but they tend to hide in the shadows and attack only in forums that allow them anonymity.

Just spent an afternoon on our white sand beaches as the tide comes in and turns the bay a beautiful blue, and you'll be hooked. I was.

“No offense to MD Freepers, but MD is a liberal mess”.

Being a Marylander all my life (well almost) I do not take offense at all. It is a liberals dream. However, there are certain parts of Maryland that aren’t that liberal like Garrett County and the eastern shore. Funny note: all of my friends are looking for places to relocate to (if they can find jobs) OR retire. I do not know a single person who plans to live out their entire lives here. Just a thought
(My son wants to go to Texas since he feels he is a “displaced Texan”, my husband likes Tennessee and my one daughter likes Colorado.

I love Wyoming’s scenery, but the wind is something else. A few years ago we, (I, my wife and her sister and bro-in-law) were driving throught Wyoming on 25 from Cheyenne going north. The wind was so strong it hard for me to keep a fully loaded mini-van with four people inside on the road. When we stopped at a small town, can’t remember the name, to refresh at a tourist info center, I opined to a very friendly guy behind the counter about how strong the wind was. He replied that the wind that day wasn’t as nearly strong as it usually is.

We did some training in the west central part of Kansas. On our breaks most of us went outside. I ask one of the locals, how many days does this wind usually last. He said he couldn’t remember when it wasn’t blowing.

California is doomed. I’ve lived there all my life and I see no hope for California. In my opinion, it has turned the corner to the point where the idiot electorate will never again vote for freedom over entitltements.

I hope to retire in 8-9 years and the next day, I will be probably be moving to Virginia. Between now and then I’ll be checking out everything from Winchester to Abingdon and everything in between, although the area around Lexington seems most attractive to me, or around Roanoke but NOT in Roanoke.

Haven’t ruled out east Tennessee or Pennsylvania but Virginia so far is my favored retirement destination.

I hope to join you sooner than later and I’ve been praying that the cancer from NOVA doesn’t spread any further than it already has.

Agreed. Entirely. Horrible. Wasps the size of crows. Rotting armadillos everywhere. Tarantulas. Scorpions. Rattlesnakes. Black ‘widdah’ spiders. People talk funny: they dry themselves with tals, warsh their cloze & get the wrinkles out with an arn — make ya’all like tuh die. Terr’ble place. Stay away.

You poor thing. I’d hate anyone to have to share your misery. Sometimes suffering alone is best, eh?

“You must not have heard we can’t call them Chiggers anymore we must call them Chigroes.”
///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
Don’t confuse them with this animal,”The chigoe flea or jigger (Tunga penetrans) is a parasitic arthropod found in tropical climates, especially South and Central America and the West Indies.”

May I still say “Redbugs” or must it be,”Native American Arthropod” or perhaps “Arthropod of color”? I don’t suppose it really matters, I haven’t seen any in this area for many years.

I don't like heat either. I can't believe people actually pay to live there. But then there are probably many people in AZ that don't understand why we like winter in Iowa.

My spouse and I are in our 70's--just the age where most people try to escape the snow and cold but not us. We live on a beautiful lake and winter here is beautiful. The leaves are off the trees and the lake is frozen and we can see the twinkling lights of the homes across the lake on the ice. We watch entire herds of deer crossing the frozen lake.

Life doesn't get any better than this lake in the winter time. Sure, he has to plow some snow, and last year there was plenty of it but he loves it. He likes plowing snow so much he goes up and down the street plowing out the neighbor's drives. Winter is easier than summer. Grass, flowers and weeds are more work than snow.

SSSH, NOW THAT YOU HAVE LET THE CAT OUT OF THE BAG, THE ILLEGALS WILL KNOW WHERE TO MOVE INTO NEXT. WHY, YOU KNOW YOU NEED GARDINERS, FAST FOOD WORKERS, ETC. SO IT WILL BE A FOOT IN THE DOOR FOR THE NEXT INVASION UP YOUR WAY. MAYBE SOME NEW YORK ILLEGALS WILL MOVE UP THERE AWAY FROM US HERE.
