Six teenagers thought to have drowned in Louisiana river

The bodies of four teenagers were pulled from a Louisiana river Monday while authorities continued to search for two more feared drowned, the Shreveport Times reported.

A group of teenagers -- aged between 14 and 18 -- had been in the Red River in Shreveport for about 10 minutes, according to family members who witnessed the drownings.

It was understood the youths, who did not know how to swim, were wading in the river when the bottom of the river fell away underneath them in a sudden drop.

Shreveport TV station KSLA-TV reported that Cindy Chadwick, Public Information Office for Caddo Parish Sheriff's Office, said six teenagers in total are believed to have drowned.

I find it pretty funny (funny clarified as odd, not haha) that you would jump to the conclusion that I meant blacks were incapable of swimming, especially when I specified a certain part of the country.

I find it odd that you think I jumped to a conclusion. What I have done, rather, is show you that what you have said can be taken in more than one way, by providing a specific response to a specific possible meaning for your sentence...and you realize this, because you posted about it subsequently.

Your specificity about the South is insignificant because you stated that you couldn't "vouch for the rest of the country."

I'm in error because you used the word "most," which I ignored in my initial response.

Does the science publication conclude that black people can't swim? Does it conclude that white people can't run?

If not, your point is non-responsive to anything I've posted.

When we were vacationing at Disney, a teenaged basketball team was staying at our resort. The team had about 7 muscular, athletic black players. Five of them jumped into the pool with those little orange life jackets on! My seven year thought it was the funniest thing, especially when we realized the rest of the team (black and white) were laughing their butts off— they had convinced the players the water was 12 feet deep so you had these 6 foot tall big kids floating in 5 feet of water with those life jackets on! Even funnier when my 12 year old daughter swam by and stood up, towering 6 inches above the floating basketball players!

You've not shown me a damned thing , and your comments have been pretty clear that you jumped to that conclusion. Others can read all of the comments and decide for themselves.

It’s rather disturbing that family was there, and none able to swim and attempt a rescue, either, apparently. A bystander rescued one of the kids.

But it was said, and someone postulated on the physicality of black people. Hence my response.

It was an answer to that childish little post of your, you wanted some physicality, well there it is. You got your dander up and want to pic nits against people making innocent posts. It isn't a big deal that one of the other freepers made an innocent comment on physicality

Here it is on freerepublic.

Scientists have found the reason why blacks dominate on the running track and whites in the swimming pool: it's in their belly-buttons, a study published Monday shows.

A pretty good current flows under Jimmy Davis. I sure as hell wouldn’t swim at the park by the bridge, but of course I would never swim in the Red in the first place.

My posts were made innocently, without judgment, you were noted for clarifying what you meant, and I placed the blame on myself for having left out an important qualifying word in one of your posts.

If you want to get nastier than you've been already, I'll have no problem going there with you...but I suggest that you stop.

TANKS a bunch for that info,,,

] The largest specimen ever recorded was found in Louisiana and measured 19 feet 2 inches (5.84 m)[,,,wiki),,,

I don’t think this correct either,,,

A guy named Kelly ran an alligator farm and raised much

of the stock that the state bought and used to restock

back in the early 60’s when their numbers got so low,,,

I saw that old bull myself,,,

That one was 22’+,,,

We used to watch him feed them,,,

Just like sloppin’ the hawgs,,,

If one got too close he would bang them on the head with

the trashcan that he used to feed them...

It sure does,,,

I keep thinking that they opened lock # 5 at the port,,,

There is no current at all when the lock is closed,,,

It must be 10 mph when the lock is wide open...

I forgot about the locks. I was thinking back before the locks were put in, even when the river was low it was still pretty swift through the channel.

Just heard on Fox that 3 (sons) were from one family; 3 (1 daughter, 2 sons) from another. Cannot imagine losing a child, much less 3, nor to have witnessed helplessly their drowning.

That river has always had a fast current when the water is high,,,

The locks give a little control,,,

I don’t know how they can time the opening of this lock

with the 4 that are downstream,,,

I think they have to all open together,,,ain’t sure,,,

The river is held at pool-stage when the water is down,,,

That keeps Bossier City water plant able to draw water as

well as the BAFB feed,,,

As close as I’ve been to that river it Dupont’s Fish Market...
