Ariz. sheriff: Report of $1M bounty on my head (Mexican drug cartels want Arpaio snuffed)

PHOENIX (AP) — A sheriff in Arizona known for his anti-immigration policies says his office is investigating a report of a $1 million bounty on his head.

A spokeswoman for Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio says the report was relayed by the FBI and by a caller who told Fox affiliate KSAZ-TV in Phoenix that the threat was from a Mexican drug cartel. Phoenix is the seat of Maricopa County.

Lisa Allen says it wasn't known whether the threat actually came from a drug cartel but authorities believe it was made using a disposable cell phone in Mexico.

Threats and promises of bounties are a dime a dozen on the SW border against LE.

If the Cartels really wanted Arpaio dead they would send one of their own assassins, instead of advertising their intentions so Arpaio can take counter measures.

I'd be wary to accept any federal protection, but if something like that did happen, Arizona law enforcement should shut the border down tight. Lights, patrols and anybody hiring an illegal should have their business license revoked, civil damages paid to the state and all equipment confiscated and sold in order to pay hospital, education and the families of those who are raped, murdered and maimed by the illegals that "our beloved" government refuses to turn away.

Unless something happens to a "chosen one" or their families, well then, we all just have to suck it up.

My thoughts exactly. We live in southern AZ, not far from the border. We already attempt to stop and hold for border patrol pick-up any illegals crossing the ranch. It usually takes the bp about an hour to get to our semi-remote location. And we do indeed not leave the house without being armed, usually with pistol and rifle (or 12 gauge) both.

Hardly, Russia has been an American Ally in war, US and Russian Troops have fought beside one another.

The Soviets were a worthy opponent in the Cold War. The Russian people are part of Western Civilization..Russians are Educated and quite capable of great feats of engineering. The Russians are much closer and have far greater similarities in values with American people than Mexico and Mexicans have ever had.

I doubt the threat is authentic because the cartels know that any violence north of the border will result is a real clampdown on their business.

With Obama in charge and the federal judiciary in his pocket it is quite the opposite. They can pretty much do what they want with impunity. The reversal of the key parts of the new Arizona law proved that. As have the protests with illegals flying the Mexican flag and daring police to arrest them. Obama and his ilk (McCain included) have emasculated the American borders and justice system.
