With his new book, Decision Points set for release the next day, former Pres. George W. Bush will sit down with NBC’s Today show anchor Matt Lauer in a one-hour prime time special.
It will be the first one-on-one interview Pres. Bush has agreed to since he left office. From the Today show site:
Since leaving office, President George W. Bush has never granted a one-on-one television interview about his presidency. But he’ll sit down with TODAY’s Matt Lauer in a special “Matt Lauer Reports” airing in prime time on Monday, Nov. 8.
President Bush will also join Matt live on TODAY on Wednesday, Nov. 10. He will talk about his book “Decision Points,” which will be released by Crown Publishers Nov. 9, and about key choices he has made in both his political and personal life.
Choosing NBC, over say Fox News, to tell his story shows the mass audience George W. Bush is looking for in anticipation of his book release (he also recently joined Facebook). Also, the interview takes place nearly a week after the 2010 midterm elections.
Lauer has interviewed Pres. Bush a couple times during his presidency – in 2004 and in 2006
I predict you'll be proven right. I'll add that GW's book will be well received by people who actually read books.

I agree, but remember what W campaigned on in his first term - he was a uniter not a divider. And, as part of that misguided philosophy, he "reached across the aisle" to Teddy Chappaquiddick to write the No Child Left Behind act that has contributed to and accelerated the deterioration of our public school system. Also, recall that as soon as W signed that bill, Teddy Chappaquiddick started stabbing W in the back.
His party in Congress reached over just fine.
Again, I agree that the 'Pubbies expend too much effort trying to be "liked" by their Dem counterparts to their own disadvanrage. This is why so many of us are so disenchanted with the GOP. Too many RINOs, and way too few pit bulls.
Yeah, I wouldn't hold my breath on that. W is a closet liberal and his second term is proof of that.
The BEST thing that W is doing is what ALL former presidents have traditionally done (Clinton being the exception, of course) is to keep a low profile and keep his own counsel. So far, that's one of the BEST things he's done since 2004.
President Ford, W and his father are the only former Presidents that I can think of in my personal recollection who went away and behaved himself with any personal dignity once out of office.
Nixon did, as did Johnson (up to a point. He died relatively shortly after deciding NOT to run for a second term). Also Eisenhower, and Truman pretty much disappeared from public view after their terms as president ended. Eisenhower (like Johnson) did not live long after he ended his second term and I don't recall about Truman. The point remains that Clinton has been extremely narcissistic and obnoxious about remaining in the news and criticizing his sucessor - also a traditional no-no among former presidents.
Nixon, in an odd twist of fate, redeemed himself and his reputation among politicians (though not the public, at large) by acting as an advisor to several presidents and politicians prior to his death. He also wrote something like 5 insightful books on topics such as history and politics.
I don’t remember Nixon and Johnson that much. My personal recollection is of the last 4 or so.
