The story is not about this woman but about her parents, who managed to raise a child without basic ability to think, and notions of right and wrong. She is a thoroughly confused individual, who tries to do the right thing but has no means to analyze what is right. And so she goes back and forth, not knowing where she belongs.

The praise goes to the "greatest generation" that managed to raise the most egotistic, anti-American, and best confused children.

It is not merely how she was brought up. Even church-going Christians are ignorant of basic doctrine. Most people equate being a Christian to attending church with a lot of other people while trying to find ways to be better people.

Instilling the understanding of the difference between the substance and merely going through the motions is a part of bringing up a child, isn't it?
