So you think it’s OK for the drug dealers and human smugglers to have assault weapons to kill cops, but it’s not OK for cops to have them to protect Arizonans (aka Americans) Glad to know where you’re coming from.

Is this sheriff one that is endorsing McCain? If so, maybe McCain can dig into his own pockets for the cash.

Ditto on the “Oh hell NO”. Take the wweapons from the cartel types and re-cycle them.....

Pinal County is squezzed between Feenix and Tucson - and is home to about 180K folks. About 30% hispanic, with major numbers of Indians (Amerinds) of the Apache and Papago tribes.

From the wiki -
“About 12.10% of families and 16.90% of the population were below the poverty line, including 25.50% of those under age 18 and 8.70% of those age 65 or over.”

To be fair, they have only one Casino on the res, Harrahs.

The posted comments to the source site are interesting, to say the least.

He is endorsing McPain. But he must be doing something right. He's getting death threats from the Mexican Mafia/drug cartels.

Why can’t they use confiscated guns? According to the gun grabbers, cops are finding piles of “semi-automatic assault weapons” on every corner.

When I've bought all I need, I will buy some for the cops. But right now, I'm still buying for me....

Yes he is one of several Sheriffs that have endorsed McCain in hopes of keeping the Federal dollars flowing into their operations.

They probably have to be held in evidence for trial, then appeals. Once the case is disposed of, there are laws that state that the weapons have to be destroyed.

A new law would have to be established allowing the officers to actually use the guns. Then you would have a bunch of different guns that officers would have to be trained with, armorers etc.

Cheaper to buy one type of weapon probably.

Slightly tongue-in-cheek: Disarm the police but let them call on any armed civilians in the area for fire support.

Dead Serious: DON'T give them Rambo weapons unless you want Rambo tactics under any and all circumstances, with zero responsibility when things go wrong.

Have the sheriff call out the militia. they are there, they have the equipment, and they are ready to go.

How can I be assured he would use his assets wisely if he’s slipshod about who is in power? (I find the one question mark adequate for the expression of my comment)

I have to agree with you. When I stop seeing police organizations lobbying for “assault” weapon and general gun bans then, only then will I consider it.
