I think its rather generous to assume that she knows exactly what the word lynching means. She knows it better than the author. Lynching isn't just by hanging.

Merriam-Webster: to put to death (as by hanging) by mob action without legal sanction
Whether or not three law enforcement officers constitute a mob is open to question, but certainly he was "put to death" without legal sanction. To the extent that her story was embellished, it was a very small embellishment. I give her a pass. I don't like her politics, but she seems to be attempting to be fair-minded.
