Colorado Republican Senate candidate Ken Buck has once again talked himself into some trouble - this time by calling certain tea-party activists "dumbasses" for questioning the legitimacy of President Obama's birth certificate.
According to the Denver Post, Buck was caught on tape saying in June, "Will you tell those dumbasses at the Tea Party to stop asking questions about birth certificates while I'm on camera." He added, laughing: "God, what am I supposed to do?"
Buck was speaking to a Democratic operative who had secretly recorded the conversation.
Buck, who enjoys strong support from the Tea Party movement, has since somewhat walked back the remarks, though he focused on language, not content.
"I'm not suggesting the language was appropriate," Buck told the Post today. "But after 16 months of being on the campaign trail, I was tired and frustrated that I can't get that message through that we are going to go off a cliff if we don't start dealing with this debt."

I know....
Reading the article, it seems that a Democrat operative secretly recorded him during a private conversation with someone he took to be a supporter.
I suppose the solution is that no candidate should ever say anything off-script in the presence of anyone who has not been strip-searched for recording devices.
Otherwise, the candidate is apparently a "fool."
That isn't a knee-jerk reaction. It is an evaluation of intelligence and capability of someone who is running for a position in which every remark they make in front of a camera or microphone has consequence.
He was neither in front of a camera or a microphone as far as he knew. You didn't read the article carefully - which doesn't really lend a lot of support to the notion that this is an "evaluation" rather than a kneejerk reaction.
If they don't get that 101 type reality of the political arena, they're mincemeat around the savvy politicians in a legislature.
In other words, the default attitude of a candidate at all times should be complete paranoia.
Let's step back a do a real evaluation.
A Democrat operative sneakily lied his way into an unguarded, off-the-cuff private conversation with a GOP candidate. And the absolute worst that they could come up with to alienate his base is that he thinks that individuals who think that Obama's constitutional fitness is the key to winning over the indepedent voters the GOP needs are dumbasses.
If that's the worst they could come up with - i.e. that he has a realistic assessment of how to win a general election - then this whole story is a ringing endorsement of Buck.
Well, now, if one wants to pick nits, sometimes the specifics as to what “just enough to get the job done adequately” are decided by someone else. And your UAW guy is not him.
I’m a dumbass too, Kenny.
Nothing to see here, folks. Just another RINO coming out of his closet.
Excuse me. You are the idiot who does not realize that Ken Buck is running for Senate. Maes and McInnis are running for gov.
Now that we know who the idiot is in this conversation, who do you want as our nominee for Senate. Known RINO Jane Norton or Ken Buck. In this case I will take Buck every time over beltway Jane.
He was not aware that this person was a Democrat operative. I doubt if he would have had an unguarded conversation with such an individual.
I am not, if you noticed, dealing with that issue. I am clearly stating that we should be asking the congressional cadidates about the issues they WILL BE VOTING on.
Will they vote to make the Bush tax cuts permanent?
Will they reduce the national DEBT?
Will they reduce the national deficit?
Will they eliminate obamacare?
His comment asking what he’s supposed to do about would indicate that he feels it’s a waste of his time. But that’s no reason to call others dumbasses for working on it or being concerned about it.
The fact of the matter is that it’s a waste of time to pass laws, if they’re never going to be enforced anyway. And this whole thing with Obama has happened because laws have not been enforced and the people who could have done something about it....... were too busy calling me and my fellow concerned Americans dumbasses for caring about the rule of law.
The people who are real dumbasses are the ones who spend their time passing laws that will never be enforced anyway. Talk about a real waste of time!

The dumbass was opposed to Amtrak, so it's good to see him self-destruct on other issues.
wideawake is hardly a troll ... and sure doesn't belong at DU.
wide posted an opinion. Everyone's got one ... lighten up.
So if it’s so simple ... Why is the jug-eared jackass hiding the truth? Just really weird way to act, spend millions to defend something that is so obvious.
Generally I agree with that approach.
But after having the HDOH break so many laws right in my face I can tell you that just passing any law is not going to do the job. Hawaii’s laws and rules should have ended this whole hoax before Obama got anywhere. But Fukino hid those rules, disobeyed the rules and laws, made deceptive public announcements, and failed to report a known forgery and perjury.
None of those laws or rules made one lick of difference because the people who were supposed to follow them just farted in everybody’s face. And there wasn’t a dang thing any of us could do about it because we can’t charge government officials with crimes.
Until government, media, and law enforcement KNOW that the people are able to hold them accountable BEFORE the damage is already done, no laws we pass make any difference.
That’s where we’re at right now. We are Mexico.
And THAT is why I doubt the conservative worldview of anybody who poo-poohs this issue. If they don’t know the importance of the rule of law and the protections the Founding Fathers placed against absolute power, they don’t “get it”.
They do care deeply about unemployment and taxes and corruption and bailouts.
I'll guess if these same people were polled and asked if they would vote for a candidate whose first priority was jobs and tax relief, or a candidate whose first priority was exposing Obama that 9 times out of 10 they would vote for the former.
True that. Makes ya wonder what else has been concealed, eh?
No, what you have done is attributed thoughts and positions to me that are not mine! For a newbie, you sure do throw that troll term around quite a bit. Look in the mirror, newbie.
Seems simple enough to me.
Follow Ronald Reagan's lead, we must "Trust, but verify".
From the Politico article it seems he did know.
“Loftus said that Buck, whose candidacy has been fueled in part by Tea Party members uninspired by one-time GOP frontrunner Jane Norton, was aware he was speaking to a Democratic tracker and simply made a mistake.”
Then it's a wash with them. However, the intransigence by Obama for not putting his eligibility issue to rest is not helping him.

No one is asking that Ken Buck or the Republicans to run on the eligibility issue as one of their main planks, but Buck did make a mistake where he's in a tight race. He now knows it. And even in unguarded moments, he should be on his best behavior, which should go without saying.
