That's the real story behind the Journolist flap, no matter what you've read to the contrary on news sites, reputable or otherwise.
Consider today's lead story on the Daily Caller, the conservative site that's led the charge on the J-list "scandal." The story "exposes" a J-List thread in which the topic of some kind of journalistic coordination came up. It has this huge headline:

The MSM act as groupthink mindguards. Their job (and they do it well) is to keep their audience (group members) from reassessing their assumptions.
When clear evidence threatens group cohesiveness, the mindguards step with "alternative" explainations when full censorship becomes impossible.

All bid rigging meetings by suppliers and contractors, strike coordinations outside that termed legal by the NLRB, coordination of efforts in restraint of trade, and similar conspiracies are all depicted as harmless information sharing meetings with high noble purposes.
Those that discover, expose and try to limit such disruptions of general order in business or property are termed Gestapo or worse. General order is a sensible use of government and society.
Journalists are long past reporting and selling a publication with such reports. They now “create” a message transported by a medium and they wish to manage that Product.

TV, “news” media, and even internt via things like Yahoo and Google are DOMINATED by leftists. I’m sure that hasn’t occurred to that writer though. To him, it’s still 1940 and people still gather round the ol’ radio to listen to the weekly stories....
