Senator John McCain has opened a 20-point lead over former Congressman J.D. Hayworth in Arizonas Republican Senate Primary race.
The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of Likely GOP Primary Voters in the state shows McCain attracting 54% of the vote, while Hayworth earns 34%.
For Hayworth, this represents another decline in support. In April, he picked up 42% of the vote. That fell to 40% in May, 36% in June and 34% in July.

Actually, McCain didn’t open up the lead, Palin did. When this started JD was within 7% of McCain. But, then, along came Palin and $12 million dollars left over from the 2008 war chest and.......well, it appears that votes are cheap.
AZ dummies
What is so annoying about this is that, all of a sudden, McCain is the border enforcement ranger, when we all know that the minute he gets re-elected, he will revert to his old open borders/amesty ways. It is sickening.
No worries. McCain is one of the Tea Partiers, according to Precious.
I don’t believe it. I won’t believe it.
They can’t possible believe McLiar
is going to do anything about the border.
They deserve what they get
and it won’t be any help from
me.
The press and the RINOS are trying to put the boodgie woodgie on us. Pay no attention.
I still think JD may win. McCain is scum. Thanks palin. The Dems, elites and saudis control america thanks to McCain-Feingold.
And I have told them that. The minute he is re-elected he goes into bi-partisan immigration reform mode. I’m just going to laugh at those who feel betrayed.
As far as I am concerned when McCain goes back to normal, every rape, every murder, every cop that is killed will be on Palin’s hands. If you feel loyalty to evil, then you live with the consequences.
If the Tea Party is REALLY wishes to send a message Hayworth will get the nomination. Won’t happen. It’s a shame. McCain is old-reason enough. Just look at Stevens in Alaska. Didn’t take much.
I agree. I cancelled TV a year ago and the TV and media are so corrupt - they want open borders McCain. He is a nightmare. I stayed at a hotel a week ago and turned on the Tv for 5 minutes. It is like the Matrix. The bias and agenda is almost on every channel - ESPN is among the worst. I turned it off.
I think JD will still pull this out. The people of AZ cannot be dumb enough to vote for amnesty McCain. Thanks Sarah.
No one could be as hated as McCain is and have those numbers.
It reminds me of the press saying Clinton was twenty points ahead of Dole in 1996. It was more like nine. Plain old propaganda being used to thwart momentum.
JMHO, part of the problem is people’s perception of J.D. I can’t remember where I read this but someone opined that he reminded people of a used car salesman. When they try to think of him as their United States Senator there’s a possible built-in resistance. At least McCain seems like the senatorial model they have in their minds. I’m not sure a lot of them are idiotic enough to outright BELIEVE him on his borders pronouncements but they could have a little hope that he will listen to Sarah Palin and Tea Partiers about the border. Hope against hope, as the old saying goes...
Don't be so sure. Many people from Minnesota retire to AZ and that DNA has given us Al Franken. I fear America is lost to idiots...
This is sickening and embarrassing. Once he is elected, he’ll do the shuffle back to the Democrat side, and prepare to run for president again. We’ll have this senile gasbag screwing up the works for another 20 years, courtesy of the Congressional medical plan.
This is a Rasmussen poll. As I understand it, not the media.
Please see my recent post, above, that I think part is the problem is people’s perception of J.D. and not all centered around their perceptions of McCain.
Of course if I were an Arizonan I would vote J.D. But I do get the comment that has been made that he reminds a lot of people of a used car salesman, whereas at least in their minds McCain reminds them of a senator...even if a BAD senator.
J.D. is just outspent 9 to 1. Money is the mother’s milk of politics, unfortunately. And some AZ Freepers on here say J.D. is not running a very efficient campaign.
