Whatever one thinks of Webb’s position here, it isn’t a new one. He’s held it at least since Born Fighting was published in 2004, and I believe for a while before that (although I don’t have my copy on hand to verify the date).
Interestingly enough, 2004 was also the year BO appeared (in a big way, i.e. being groomed for presidency) on the national stage.
