Yep. And don't forget, by the summer of 1996, unemployment was approaching 5.40%, which is almost two full points lower than it was when Clinton took office. By that time, his approvals had substantively rebounded because the economy was really starting to heat up and we were approaching full employment.
Obama will have a different set of circumstances - a much worse set of circumstances - but I think there's nothing to keep him from running for a second term and nothing to keep him from gaining the Dem nomination. It's virtually impossible to lose the Dem nomination with 95% black support, and 75%+ Latino support - they're just too big to overcome for a challengers.
Why wouldn’t he want to be a one-term president? He’s already gotten most of what he wants. He finishes his term and then he can collect a check for the rest of his life. Secret Service detail and staff protecting him day and night. He can then spend his ‘retirement’ doing that which he enjoys most, campaigning. He’ll jump on the lecture circuit making a couple million an appearance, writing more books. Sickening.
I’m not convinced Hillary would win should she run.
She’s a boring speaker, and I think the American people, after the Obama fiasco, are fed up with electing ‘firsts’.
It would be a huge mistake to underestimate his quest for power, now and in the future.
” The RINOs would rather destroy the party than lose their grip on power. Like the democrats they like socialism, they just want to be the ones getting the perks. “
Rep Boner is on Fox News right now, agreeing with the Obama administration that the Republican party lost its way. That should help us big time in November. He also offered no solutions, and he looks like he drank a whole bottle of scotch last night.
Sorry I disagree, if Ø senses he won’t/can’t win he’ll bail ‘cuz his narcissistic ego won’t let him. Can you see him going to rallies that are half-empty, with people possibly booing him, no more rock star staus, glowing admiration....not gonna happen.
I think Hillary will replace Biden as the VP in 2012. Biden could become Sec. of State. If Hillary does run I think they would be tough to beat.
Good points. I am certainly not predicting that he will win. It is just that Republicans will not have as easy of a time as they did this year. This year Democrats were down to a strategy of blaming minority Republicans and characterize them by statements from a few nobodies. They are fighting a losing battle.
But next year republicans will have a Presidential primary that could get ugly, and Obama will hand congress the unpopular deficit commission recommendations, and the economy should improve some maybe. As I said from the beginning, Republicans need to make Obama own all the bad news to win like they did with Bush.
Even if the GOP had had both houses, Reagan wold still have had great difficulty cutting government. Some of Reagan's greatest opposition came from his own party. The GOP is the caboose on the same long political train as the DemocRat engine that pulls it - its just a matter of time before the GOP passes the same way as the Leftists.
Great article in American Thinker. Scary!

I agree with you.
I have said this from before he was elected.
Gridlock. Gridlock. Gridlock. I kind of wish for a perpetual gridlock. But then again, the stupid party will compromise with the evil party to create more monstrosities.

Not only that, but when the primary names being floated right now as potential Republican nominees are Romney, Huckabee, Palin, and Gingrich, I don’t see why he has any reason not to be confident. Even if the economy does not rebound, I don’t think he’ll have a huge amount of trouble beating any one of those four.
Just the other day I pointed out those four in that exact order and commented :”....Romney, Huckabee, Palin, and Gingrich the thought makes me sick...” Did you get that from me ? :)
It's not just can they win but it's also thought of waking up in a year with one of them as president. I knew if McCain got elected I would be miserable for four years. At least with Obama it is OK to condemn spending, debt, unemployment, bailouts, amnesty...If Mccain was president we'd be told we have to defend those things, again. With Obama I can march against those things, with McCain what would the options be?
Palin got McCain this far. If McCain wins, he will push H A R D for amnesty, will co opt Snowe, Collins and Homo, and might pull it off, short of a civil war.
It's virtually impossible, but not impossible. Obama has lost the Democrat elites -- the people that finance democrat candidates. No money, no independent voters, no re-election. That's where I see this going.
