Official: No White House pressure on (Shirley) Sherrod
Politico ^ | 7/20/2010 | Ben Smith

Posted on 07/20/2010 2:54:54 PM PDT by Qbert

Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack this afternoon took responsibility for firing an official, Shirley Sherrod, whose appearance on video recalling her behavior toward a white farmer drew charges of racism, and whose immediate firing drew suggestions that the administration had over-reacted to an edited video clip.

A White House official told me just now that the White House backs Vilsack's decision -- but that it was Vilsack's alone. The official said the White House -- contrary to the Sherrod's charge -- did not pressure the Department to fire her.

Vilsack's statement:

Yesterday, I asked for and accepted Ms. Sherrod’s resignation for two reasons. First, for the past 18 months, we have been working to turn the page on the sordid civil rights record at USDA and this controversy could make it more difficult to move forward on correcting injustices. Second, state rural development directors make many decisions and are often called to use their discretion. The controversy surrounding her comments would create situations where her decisions, rightly or wrongly, would be called into question making it difficult for her to bring jobs to Georgia.

Our policy is clear. There is zero tolerance for discrimination at USDA and we strongly condemn any act of discrimination against any person. We have a duty to ensure that when we provide services to the American people we do so in an equitable manner. But equally important is our duty to instill confidence in the American people that we are fair service providers.

Let’s see...

That’s not the ____ I used to know;
You misunderstood;
My view as evolved;
______ fault;
Stirred up by the right-wing smear machine;
(insert middle finger here);
Don’t interrupt me, let me answer you (2 hours later);
Don’t believe your lying eyes and ears;
I never heard Rev. Wright preach hate... er, maybe a couple things I didn’t agree with... I call for a race talk and it will be your fault;

I could go all day.

Mutters to self... Where’s my Obama speech and blame boards...

“drew charges of racism, and whose immediate firing drew suggestions that the administration had over-reacted to an edited video clip.”

Typical weasel-words from the fascist liars at politico.

“drew suggestions??” From whom, you horses’ ass. Name names, turd. You won’t because you made it up to display your own personal prejudices.

Ben Smith is a maggot and a liar. Seventy years ago, Ben Smith would’ve been standing on a corner screaming “Seig Heil!!!” He’d most likely be wearing a white sheet and hood.

“What I REALLY want to know is,,why did she accept a position at the USDA only weeks after winning a $13 million dollar settlement against them? Note - it seems to be the Vilsack,,first he’s a defendant in her case and then he appoints her,,hmmmmmmmmm”

Intriguing.

“Watch the video or tape the rerun of Beck’s program (at 2 am, I believe) and watch it. I’m not a fan of Beck but he lays it all out. The NAACP and the WH are throwing Sherrod under the bus and blaming Beck and the Tea Parties in order to make them look like a lynch mob, IMO. Beck won’t play along and I think he’s doped out the truth.

Don’t believe me? Why would the NAACP release a video of this speech now? Sherrod gave this speech in March. A speech about events that happen in 1986. Plus, why only release a portion of of the speech instead of the entire speech? Sherrod says the entire speech vindicates her. The NAACP has the entire speech on video but they aren’t releasing it. And why the rush to force Sherrod to resign by the WH? “

Interesting. If the NAACP initially denounced her, then making that argument (that it’s Fox and TP’s fault) now after they had the tape in their possession and knew what was in it all this time would make them look even more foolish.

Anyone else have a very garbled Fox tonight? Trying to watch Hannity and it’s impossible.

I suspect more so now there is some kind of a deal being worked out.

So many things don’t make sense.

Of course, the current regime has never been very good at their PR when it comes to sensative issues, and often it seems like one hand doesn’t know what the other is doing.

Thanks. I was up on the Sestak story. I think I missed the Kyl story while I was out of the country.

In general, I wouldn’t trust anyone in this Administration without verifying. This just adds to that.

Is this not a racist statement in it's self?

Two facts of life for politicians, especially liberals.

1) If their lips are moving, they are LYING.
2) Whatever a liberal accuses someone of, they are doing it in “SPADES”.

That’s my final answer.
