But a German Shepherd won't plow through mud, underbrush, flooded timber and water weed just to pick up a dead mallard duck . . . .

The trouble is explaining to a high-powered field Lab that yes, you want them to go full steam ahead through all obstacles . . . just not right now.

My Ruby heels pretty well now, just sometimes she forgets herself a little.

Off leash heeling with a duck in the water, but if you look carefully you can see that her hind feet have levitated off the ground. She's out ahead, which I don't like, but since a mallard just made a great big splash about 75 yards in front of her, I'll take it.
