I have never participated in a "tea party" demonstration or rally. Nor do I think I ever will.
The reason is simple: I am black and I am proud...

But that visceral hatred is not the entirety of the movement. I admire the principle of protesting peaceably against your government. I, too, am fed up by vast unemployment, underemployment, and making do with smaller paychecks and increasingly burdensome taxes. Like many protesters, I agree that the government has gotten too large and has a say over too much of our lives. I think that our nation's immigration laws should be enforced most vigorously. And I agree that capitalism and a strong national defense are the best ways for this great country to continue to thrive, defeat terrorism and lead as the world's sole superpower.
These are sentiments that many of my black friends, neighbors and family members share. Although I may be virtually alone among my black peers in saying this publicly, I know I'm not the only one who feels this way.

So why can't black Americans have a tea party movement of our own? That is, why can't we get energized by politicians and proposals that would put people back to work and reduce the burden of taxes? I am all for social programs that feed and help people in rough times, but we need to do more than keep heads above water.
No community is more in need of this message than the black community. It's too bad that the bigots and the bad actors in the tea party movement have drowned out the substance of a message we all should hear.

Any group of people that thinks in a collective mindset is doomed to mediocrity.
I think that is a great thought .....a tea party of their own. Let’s see, African tea. Banners of yellow, green and black.
A special week in February with one prominent day....Tewanza. That’t the ticket
Face/Palm indeed. WHY would the question even be asked? Only to divide us so the Marxist Dems can stay in power.
lol
That’s prejudice, dear.
The reason I believe most Americans are not racist is because I doubt many of them even think of themselves in terms of the color of their skins.
I would go further and suggest anyone that thinks the color of their skin is the most important thing in life is most likely a racist, regardless of what color it happens to be.
ROFLMAO!!
‘Tewanza” !!
fantastic..you are brilliant!
What, too good to mingle with the whitey devils?
Sophia A. Nelson sounds like a racist to me.
They just don’t “get” the whole liberty and Constitution part, do they?
meh...
I believe that the reason more black Americans do not participate is that the media has conditioned people to believe that any reproach of a black man or woman must be considered a reproach against black people based solely on skin color.
It does not matter if you are reproaching the man/woman on issues, all that people are conditioned to look at is skin color, thanks to the democrats and the liberal media.
As all of the tea party knows, the reproach of Obama is just as hard as the reproach of Dodd, Reid, Boxer, Pelosi and Barney Frank. Obama gets is apparently harder because he is the top man in charge. he is surely not the architect of all this. All this HAD to be ready to go LONG before Obama was elected. There is NO WAY this was all written in the short time period of this presidential term.
Exactly. Groupthink leads people to believe in ideas that run counter to their own best interest... and others.
Simple: Any organization that limits it's membership to one particular ethnicity or race is, by definition, inherently RACIST [see NAACP, MEChA, KKK, etc.]...
What makes ours work is that it is based on a political philosophy, not skin color - anyone is welcome, as long as they have the same goals.
Poor Sophia is most likely about to find out that since she admits to sharing Tea Party ideals - she may be black but she’s not black enough.
I don’t think your agenda belongs in the Tea Party, Sophia. We’re made up of normal, everyday Americans. It’s too bad you’re not one of us.
Some people just completely miss the point of the Tea Party. We are energized against the politicians.
As for the racial issue, just imagine this scenario. Someone on the stage at a Tea Party proposes three words "President Thomas Sowell". Can you imagine any response other than wild, near riotous cheering?
False flag column designed to weaken and divide the tea party movement?
Remind me again just what it was that blacks had against segregation.
