[LA Times] Updated at 5:07 p.m.: The USGS downgraded the quake to 5.4 magnitude. The Los Angeles Fire Department said it has not gotten reports of serious damage or injuries. Residents in Riverside County told The Times the quake provided a sharp jolt — but they have not witnessed major damage.
Riverside Police Chief Sergio Diaz said he felt strong jolts at the police headquarters but there was no initial report of serious damage.
“So far everything is okay,” Diaz said. “ To me it felt like two separate events. The first felt like a fore-shock, the second one was stronger.”
Yes, it is a different fault. The San Andreas is on the East side of the Salton Sea. The earthquakes are moving North though. I felt it here Cypress but it was not that bad.
I was walking between patients rooms and barely felt it but my office girls started screaming and headed for the door frames here in the Imperial Valley. My guess was 4.5 but the office staff yelled “6.0 at least”. Guess we were both wrong. Surprising, since we have all become experts here in the Valley since Easter.
A vase fell over in a mall in Palm Desert....
Watch for 4,000 reporters to swarm all over that store, helicopters overhead, men in moon suits and the Geologist dike from UCLA will explain to all how the vase fell over.
It felt strong to me [Hollywood Hills] ... about 6.0 or slightly over.
And if my chihuahua-mometer [named Fidel] is any indicator, he barked more for this quake than any in his life [8 years].
I far would you be from what they say ( via the map ) was the epicenter...guessing you might be near Brawley.

I-5/Genessee is north/central San Diego county. I-5/I-805 is the closest major freeway intersection.
Felt it solid in Eagle Rock. Chandelier swayed and doors rattled.
I’d hate to be on the tram half way up to San Jacinto when that happened!

notice the variance in the depths of the quakes...don’t remember seeing that before.
So that’s what that smell is coming from the Salton Sea.
