NRA Now Leans Toward Endorsing Harry Reid
Red State ^ | Thursday, July 1st at 8:00AM EDT | Posted by Erick Erickson (Profile)

Multiple sources tell me the National Rifle Association is planning to endorse liberal Harry Reid against pro-gun champion Sharron Angle.

Two weeks ago, I told you about the carveout the NRA received in exchange for their support for the DISCLOSE ACT deal.

Then this week, RedState broke the story of the “gag order” the NRA issued to members of its Board on the Kagan nomination.

Now, I’m getting credible reports that the NRA is leaning toward endorsing Harry Reid, even though the NRA is finally saying it will score a vote on Kagan — something that was not a sure thing.

Why would they do this? Why would they go out of their way to protect a Senator who has demonstrated a repeated hostility to the Second Amendment in his votes and his leadership?

Well, I thought perhaps the NRA carveout in the DISCLOSE Act might be the answer. But, there is more. It turns out, Reid secured a $61 million earmark for a gun range in Clark County, Nevada.

Their position on the Disclose Act was pretty clear to me. Their refusal to back Heller was pretty clear. Their acceptance of ‘common sense’ gun laws is also pretty clear.

The NRA has been compromised at the very highest levels by leftist corruptocrats who are by now no doubt engaged in activities that could land them in jail. They have either been penetrated or they are being blackmailed or both. Leading members should sue immediately to get to the bottom of this perfidy via discovery ASAP!

Oh come on folks, if anything has been learned on Free Republic over the last three months, it’s that it doesn’t matter who entities endorse in elections. It’s just not important.

McCain? Fiorina? It just doesn’t matter. /s

Like hell it doesn’t. I just with the folks who will get righteously upset about the NRA here, would get just as upset when their goddess does it.

Those are good points. To be sure, I’ve not been active in keeping up with NRA behind the scenes. Just always put them in the “good guy” category. I hope it’s not gone over to the dark side, but maybe it has. I’ll keep my eyes open.

Thanks and FRegards

I just cancelled my membership and told them to never send me anything again!

The address to cancel is 11250 Waples Mill Rd. Fairfax VA 22030

It must be in writing to cancel!

I suggest others do the same, as the NRA isn’t looking out for us, only their organization! They won’t have an organization without us!

I just recently re-joined the NRA. If they have indeed endorsed Harry Reid, I will likey have the shortest length of membership in that organization. It will be either GOA or JPFO (and I’m a goy).

The DISCLOSE Act already has ensured that I will NOT renew my NRA membership.

‘eff ‘em.

I wrote “You endorsed gun-grabbing john mccain, so I’m joining Gun Owners of America”, stuck that note inside the NRA’s postage-paid envelope and mailed it to those traitors.

I will join GOA this weekend.

I don’t believe this, but even if they did, it wouldn’t change a single vote.

Better yet, rip up those letters and return them to the sender in their own Business-Reply envelope. Costs them a nice piece of change and saves you from a bit more trash in your bin.

“NRA fund raising letter was on my desk.

Now that letter is in the trash.”

Maybe you should send a letter back to them stating why you will not be contributing any more of your hard-earned money to their organization. Several years ago when I found out they were a sell-out organization I let my membership lapse, but I did let them know why I did so and attached my letter with articles to show them what I had learned. Funny, I never heard back from them ever again.

Then I joined the GOA and have also contributed to the SAF. The GOA is a much better, non-compromised, (at this point) pro-2nd amendment organization than the NRA.

I would advise every one to inform their friends and associates who value their right to self-defense about this and other things the NRA has done to compromise our 2nd Amendment right.

Whether or not this story is factual it seems there has been some heavy lobbying of the NRA by leftists.

The left has not given up on making guns illegal. By further compromising the NRA they are moving their cause forward.

I won’t support the NRA but lets remember who the real enemy is. There is still that treaty out there.

Any NRA member in Nevada is very politics-aware.

When your gun rights are already as strong as hell (like in Nevada) and you have the McDonald decision behind you, you don't have to be a single-issue RKBA voter. In this case, ironically, it works against a Democrat when liberal journalists were opining just the opposite that because of the recent US Supreme Court decision gun rights voters would now be freed to cast their vote for Democrats.

The NRA can endorse Harry, the Nevada NRA members will understand what NRA rationale that Reid's endorsement is based upon, and then the Nevada NRA voters will go into the booth on election day and vote for Harry's opponent.

The NRA endorsement means a lot to a great many politicians, but the NRA doesn't actually pull the lever for you in the voting booth.
