When the House agreed to give subpoena powers to President Barack Obama’s newly formed oil-spill commission, 420 members voted for the plan and only one voted against it: Texas Republican Ron Paul.
A spokeswoman for Paul declined to elaborate on the congressman’s vote.

This commission will be a colossal waste of time. 0 will be show-boating. My guess, he’ll probably subpoena Bush and Cheney, just cause.
I think wRONg PAUL is an idiot and a losertarian...but he is correct on this vote. (but not much else)

The ‘Tea Party’ is not a utopian solution to all the problems in this country. We need conservative constitutionalists. Many so called ‘Tea Partiers’ fail to meet that description, and we also see ‘Tea Party’ candidates trying to bash the real conservatives.

Being a minority of one does tend to make a person feel lonely. I've been there, done that. But when you know you're right, you feel a little sorry for those who for whatever reason do not understand fully the issue they voted on.
There's a brief section in Barry Goldwater's book, The Conscience of a Conservative, where Sen. Goldwater tells of being the only vote against a change to labor law that was supposed to reduce the power of corrupt unions. He was concerned that a half-way fix was worse than no fix at all, since it would remove the pressure and it was unlikely they would revisit the issue at a later time and do it right.
When the bill went to the House, it was rejected and the Landrum-Griffin bill substituted in its place.
Whatever may be said about Goldwater going liberal in his later years, he was a man of great integrity, as is Dr. Paul.
(Google books, I found, provides the very pages I summarized above from Goldwater's book. Go here to read it, and the rest of the chapter on labor. Fascinating stuff, and still relevant today.)
So,what is your plan? Until a better movement gets underway the Tea Party gets my support. Who’s getting yours? By the way, we will never see a movement that we totally agree with. That’s not going to happen. If you are going to wait for a new movement that you agree with, good luck.
Movements do not need ‘names’...and I am not knocking everything about ‘Tea Parties’. We do not need a new party. We need conservative candidates and conservative winners in the battle for Congress.
Tea party candidates are not always the best candidate in these primaries, and the tea party candidates and the conservative candidates have often been beating up on each other rather than focusing on issues.
It is time to focus on issues and select candidates who focus on the issues in the way that we would focus on issues.
It is time for us to select candidates on the Republican ticket who represent our best conservative, constitutional interests.
Why Republican? Because right now a third party would maintain status quo in DC - continued control by the leftist demoncrat majority.
Goldwater never went liberal. It his later years, as abortion became a more heated political issue, he made it clear he was pro-choice, which to him was consistent with the idea of favoring personal liberty. He presumably always held this view, but it wasn’t really part of the political discourse back when he ran for President. I’m not necessarily endorsing this view, but I don’t think it makes him liberal.

To some, though, being pro-life is sufficient evidence that a person is conservative and being pro-choice is all that's needed to be labeled a liberal.
You and I know it's not that simple.

I agree. However, we are normally left with either the GOP candidate or the Tea Party candidate. It would be better if our selection was like picking out a nice apple at the store. But that isn’t going to happen any time soon since it appears the GOP desires that their candidate have a pocket full of his/her own money before they will support him/her.
First of all, the ‘Tea Party’ is a movement, not a political party. The moment it becomes a ‘Party’ the Dims will have a lock on Gov’t in DC until there is finally a revolution.
Second, I stand by what I said earlier, the ‘Tea Party’ candidate is not always the best conservative choice.
Third, ALL monetary political support should go to the best candidate, not to the GOP, whether we are talking primary or general election.
You are right, the Tea Party is not a political party. You are also right that the Tea Party does not always pick the best candidate. That is, the best candidate according to you. However, the GOP also does not pick the best candidate and often picks the incumbent or the one with the deepest pocket.
I also agree that the GOP money should go to the best candidate. Again, the GOP does not always pick the most conservative candidate. They often go with the one who will not buck party dictate which means he/she is not the best candidate.
So my question to you, is, who do you think endorses the most conservative candidates? The Tea Party or the GOP?
I don’t like political endorsement by political entities, especially in the primaries. An over simplistic answer to your question is ‘We do.’
As far as picking the most conservative candidate, or the most preferred candidate, I think I am right 99+% of the time :)...and sometimes my opinion is not so humble...
For instance, Juan McLame is not the right choice in AZ, and I think Palin was wrong to endorse him.
What defines conservative constitutionalism?
1. Fiscal & economic conservatism; reign in gov’t spending - spend less and less; no Federal bailouts of things like banks and car companies....and get rid of the Fed Reserve.
2. Socially conservative...get rid of welfare; repeal Obamacare, and no replacement with a ‘GOP’ version; No he’n & he’n r her’n & her’n marriages and no partner ‘rights’. No abortions.
3. No laws at federal, state or municipal level that violate any of the 1st 10 ammendments to the Constitution (freedom of speech, fredom of religion, right to own and bear arms etc etc etc).
4. Reduce the size of gov’t at all levels (fed, state, local)
5. Enforce immigration laws. No amnesty. Send illegals back to Mexico or wherever they came from. Build a fence. Armed patrols. Shoot smugglers. Protect citizens whose property is on or near the border. Profile.
6. Now it is your turn...add to this list.
