He finished off that goal so confidently. We had a lot of chances in this game that went begging for a confident finish.

Awesome result, well-deserved for sure.

USA USA USA!

Breaking news? Soccer? Who cares.

Throw a pit bull in the story and you'd be all over it.

On top of that most WC matches have been during the day where many folks can’t watch. If time differential allowed the games to be live during primetime then the ratings would be crazy high in the USA.

Eh, I’m not a huge fan of the sport, but I’ll root for the USA team in just about any competition. Even soccer!

Not quite. We made it to the 16 in 1994. We weren’t one of the top 2 teams in our Group, but we were one of the best 3rd-finishing teams, so we made it to the second round, only to be eliminated by Brazil.

World Cup ratings hit a 16-year high in U.S.

Thanks to illegal immigration.

I don’t think soccer would rise that much in popularity in America. It’s just not going to happen.

Ratings are at an all-time high.

ESPN (Disney) and Fox (News Corp.) have paid for the rights to the World Cup and/or the English Premier League. Are those companies in business to lose money? Do they have a history of same?

I care! It was a fantastic game and the USA deserved the win, they worked their tails off to get it!

Soccer isn’t everyone’s cuppa, that’s fine. I watch stock cars make left-hand turns for 4 hours, and love the strategy of curling, go figure.

What made me even prouder, was how were represented in the stands. Heck, we don’t even get that kind of support when we play our games here sometimes, especially against the Mexicans.

This is a defining moment for soccer here in the US, even people who never watched a game before, you can bet will be watching the next game.

Come on board the bandwagon folks, there’s plenty of room!!

We made to semis in 2002, much better result than 94 even.

We made it to the Final 8 in 2004, and pretty much outplayed Germany, and could have easily reached the semis, if not for a questionable call, which should have been a US goal.

When the officiating is worse than that of the NBA, that’s saying something.

I thought we had more recently, but 1994 I remember clearly. Thanks for the info.

Do you expect them to start the games at one or two AM? That would put them in prime time here. Ridiculous!

Yes, it was 2002, not 2004, and it was the quarterfinals where we lost to Germany. But even the German players said they were lucky to win.
