Three Republican senators from states on the Gulf of Mexico have introduced a bill they say will make it easier for the United States to accept foreign ships to help the BP oil spill clean-up effort.
Texas Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison joined with Florida Senator George LeMieux and John Cornyn of Texas to draft a bill that would temporarily suspend the Jones Act in the Gulf region, which they say is keeping foreign ships from offering aid. The 90-year-old law, which already includes a provision that allows waivers for foreign ships on a case-by-case basis, mandates that vessels may only partake in coastwise transport between U.S. ports if they are constructed in the United States, owned by United States citizens and crewed by United States citizens and/or permanent residents. The bills sponsors say that given the emergency situation, the provisions currently in place do not go far enough.
With still only 20 skimmers off the coast of Florida, we need to expedite additional assistance, LeMieux said. Any vessels ready to help should be allowed into the Gulf.
Former President Bush temporarily suspended the law in the wake of hurricane disasters in 2005. According to Keith Hennessy, who served as Bushs deputy at the White House National Economic Council at the time, the waivers actual impact was small and diffuse
[but] every little bit helped. The senators say they are taking action because President Obama has not issued an executive order to waive the protectionist law.

This will make Mr. Skittles really mad. Better not do it. He might feel like kicking some ass or something.
0bama is one evil bastard.
The sabateur-in-chief strikes again. This is without a doubt the worst president we’ve ever had. And that’s really saying something.
In your face, Barry
Impeach the a$$hole-in-chief. This guy is the biggest loser since Jimmy Carter!
“It doesn’t make sense!”
Unless you understand that he’s willing to exploit ANYTHING in order to further his agenda.
No, BP doesn’t want the oil leaking.
YES, 0bama DOES want the oil leaking.
By doing this he damages America, which seems to be priority for him, and helps all his Arab brothers in the ME and Soros in South America.
It is reassuring to see that more and more Americans are realizing that Obama’s agenda is not an innocent difference of opinion, but rather is an activist radical agenda to damage and cripple America any way he can.
From his point of view the oil spill was a wrapped birthday present. He wants it to go on as long as possible and to do as much damage as possible to those arrogant Americans.
They deserve it anyway.
No, BP doesnt want the oil leaking.
YES, 0bama DOES want the oil leaking.
BINGO!
on the evening news last night a congressman states that we only have 20 skimmers in the gulf at this time ,THE OTHER 2000 are still in port in case of another oil spill!!!!!!
If the 2000 skimmers had been deployed , it’s possible not a drop of oil would have made it to shore. I consider this a act of treason by obama.
Senator LeMieux is doing a good job of putting this in the public’s eye, in spite of the MSM.
Time for a new nickname for ol’ Zilch:
