NBC News' Savannah Guthrie reports this morning that Gen. Stanley McChrystal is being called to Washington for a meeting at the White House tomorrow in the wake of a Rolling Stone article that has exposed McChrystal and his staff as mockingly disrespectful of their civilian overseers, including their commander-in-chief President Barack Obama.
Guthrie posted at Twitter:
McChrystal has been ordered to the Sit Rom tomorrow to explain his stmts criticizing admin officials to Rolling Stone to POTUS in person 15 minutes ago via UberTwitter
Guthrie added: "McChrystal has been calling around town apologizing to officials."
The Atlantic reported late last night that McChrystal had been called by numerous top officials last night:
Within hours after today's Rolling Stone story broke, McChrystal was called by the White House, the Secretary of Defense, and the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. They were not happy.
The Atlantic also notes that McChrystal never completely had the trust of the Obama administration:
Even though McChrystal voted for Obama and told him so during their first meeting, he sensed that a number of senior White House aides didn't really believe that the former commander of the military's special missions unit during the Bush-Cheney years was suddenly on their side. National Security Adviser James Jones, who is a bit of cipher to McChrystal's team, may or may not have been one of these aides. No one in the West Wing bought all that liberal internet chatter about JSOC's alleged crimes -- but no one really didn't buy it, either.
He has seen the light. Obutt doesn't have his vote now.
You got it.
Please tell me what kind of a General Officer, other than a black one voting out of blind allegiance to his race, would consciously have voted for Comrade Zero in the first place?
If McChrystal actually voted for Comrade Zero, with the information he had available about the candidate at the time of his voting decision, I am forced to question his competence for a command position, at the least, and maybe his sanity, at the worst.
How can one possibly be a serving General officer, and vote for the suicide of the nation he is sworn to protect?
If Secretary Gates had an ounce of backbone, he too would resign as General McCyrstal should do today!!! They won’t. They will just stand by and Let POTUS Obama destroy our military and take the nation down in the process. Whimps, both of them!!!
Oh, so is that the play? McChrystal should rightfully be canned. But the Magnanimous One will put aside this insubordination for “the greater good”.
I know it’s “bad form” but I’m tired of people apologizing for telling the truth. First Barton and now McChrystal. What they said was DEAD ON ACCURATE.
generals are supposed to be apolitical.
Eisenhower never voted. I read he was scrupulous about this.
They are not supposed to have political allegiance to the Pres. They serve our nation and whoever is CIC.
Agreed. That;s why we are not just anohter junta-land.
McChrystal was the author of the terrible ROEs that are getting a lot of our guys killed; I’m not sure how popular he is with the troops. However, he obviously came up with those ROE’s because there was a lot of pressure from the WH (probably Biden more than anybody, since Bambi is too incompetent even to understand what these are) to come up with something that reduced the effective fighting power of our troops and made it easier for the Taliban to use Afghan civilians as a cover up for their activities. Well, that wasn’t the stated purpose, of course, but the exaggerated moves to “protect Afghan civilians” that are at the base of these ROEs have certainly had that effect, not to mention resulting in many dead Americans and allies.
McChrystal seemed to be fine with this; but now it appears that he may have seen it as a compromise that would be a way of getting more troops and ultimately increasing American military power there. That part never happened and I think he realizes that it was intentional and that Obama really doesn’t want to win this and was setting him up. It may have been unprofessional to make these comments, and I’m sure he will be fired, but frankly, I can’t say that he’s in the wrong.

And if you really want to make THE ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT IN CHIEF mad, then give him this:
What exactly did he say?
It’s already a mess, and McChrystal, Gates, and even McChrystal’s boss Petraeus share the blame alongside Obama. Afghanistan has completely fallen apart (again).
General Douglas MacArthur was called back by Truman and relieved for insubordination, so General Stanley McChrystal is in very good company. The difference is that McChrystal has far better reason to question orders being given to our soldiers. Whether or not you agree with Truman's opposition to giving a general nuclear weapons release authority, at least MacArthur was serving under a real American who loved this country.
Yeah, I guess they’re pretty much stuck with him since I don’t know who else in their right mind would want his job.
Obama will form a committee and then wait for the report.
I'll settle for his resignation because of his incompetence and being an all around dumbass.
History shows another president that hailed from Illinois. He too went through several generals during a war.
The only thing that will save the General is the political ramification if Obama fires him. If the regime sees too much downside then he’ll probably stay.
Is is not luck, it is a very indecisive CnC.
I suggest he "GO DOWN FIGHTING!"
and put Obama through the fiery furnace of "the truth," as the General see it.
