BP 'Excited' Over Kevin Costner's Oil Cleanup Machine, Purchases 32 Units (Test Confirms it Works)

Actor's Machine Designed to Separate Oil and Water, BP: Tests Confirm Device Works.

After actor Kevin Costner spent weeks calling attention to a high-tech oil cleanup device his company spent years developing, BP tested the machine and overnight released a statement saying that not only does the device work, officials are "excited" about its potential.

"We were confident the technology would work but we needed to test it at the extremes. We've done that and are excited by the results," said Doug Suttles, BP's chief operating officer. "We are very pleased with the results and today we have placed a significant order with OTS [Costner's Ocean Therapy Solutions] and will be working with them to rapidly manufacture and deploy 32 of their machines."

The machine is a centrifuge designed to separate spilled oil from water and, according to Costner, could be instrumental in cleaning up the massive oil slick expanding in the Gulf.

Costner has spent the past 15 years and more than $20 million of his own money to develop the oil separator, which during successful testing, left water 99 percent clean of crude.

"If 20 of my V20s [machines] would have been at the Exxon Valdez, 90 percent of that oil would have been cleaned up within the week," he said, referring to one of the models of the oil separators.

Costner told "Good Morning America" anchor Sam Champion Monday that he became inspired to work on the device after watching coverage of the Exxon Valdez oil spill.

That spill occurred off the coast of Alaska when the supertanker Exxon Valdez hit a reef in 1989. Approximately 11 million gallons of oil spilled into Prince William Sound, causing widespread harm to the local wildlife, environment and economy.

I would rather he use an American company and not a Dutch company to clean up the mess. I am surprised you don’t feel the same.

The funny thing is that Costner told a pal of mine that the US government had developed this technology more than 20 years ago, but allowed the patent to lapse. He jumped in and bought the patent and now stands to profit handsomely.

American entrepreneurship in action!

I believe it’s his brother’s ‘brains’ behind the invention....
Costner has the name appeal

A centrifuge uses more energy than gravity.

Well yes, but there is no way it could use only gravity, there is some pumping going on somewhere, somehow otherwise it could do the job. Certainly, without much production anyway. For gravity to do the job the water/oil to be separated has to be at some elevation above sea-level, how does the water get there?

Where do I say the ships don’t use pumps? They obviously both use pumps, but for the separation the ships use gravity, and that uses less energy that centrifuges.

His brother may have been the “brains” behind the invention, but Kevin supplied the capital to develop and market it. And if it works, and they profit from it, then good for them!

I doubt BP would be buying as many of them if they didn’t think it would work.

And how many thousands of square miles can you cover with 32 machines? The 2000 bbl per day assumes that the oil is in the maximum concentration EXACTLY where the machines are. In reality, the machines will pull maybe 100-200 barrels per day max.

Essentially that's what I said....

The brother is the inventor, Costner has the 'name' (& yes the funding) to get it done.

No argument from me.

Are you kidding? BP is in ass saving mode. They are buying the machines knowing that they work but because they are so few and the spill area is so large, they will have minimal effect, except to be able to say they are doing all they can to clean up the oil. Skimmers are also proven technology and they haven’t been using them, but then Obastard hasn’t either.

How about using the best companies in the world, quickly?

And I mean several of them.

in my opinion BP is not buying Kevin Costner’s Oil Cleanup Machine but hiring John W. Houghtaling, II Louisiana SuperLawyer that is also one of the owners of the Costner Industries.
